coaching situations??

Great post dude, and I wish I'd seen that episode as it sounds like Awen raised a very valid point.
Why should the process go: Who's available > who's the best we can get from that bunch?
Instead of: Who do we want the absolute most?
I do have to say Bellamy does seem to produce some pretty freakish players, and average players who go there end up playing in career best form.
BUT!!
Would I want someone who carries such a negative, spiteful, arrogant air about them running my team? No.
Would I want someone who I personally believe was closely involved in the worst cheating our game has ever seen running my team? No.
I'd much rather a Kiwi who has achieved success at every level and with every team he has coached, who has no (potential) black marks next to his name and comes across as a great guy.
Therefore, if I was running the Warriors, McClennan would actually be my number 1 choice.

That's awesome HM. I think it's a pretty good position for the club to be in - it seems their preference is the same as the fans. But yeah, in regards to Awen - my respect for him really grew. We all know how tough he was on the park, but I was surprised by how sharp and competitive the guy still is.

You raise some good points re: Bellamy. I was more using him as an example of dynamic thought, than anything else. Maybe I'm missing the point - perhaps Scurrah showed vision in not competing with Penrith's offer for Ivan, by using it as the opportunity to get Bluey in.

Your last line there - I think you are bang on. I'm pretty sure there was a strong hint from Warriors management that they'd happily release Cleary if he found a job to go to.
I realise Bellamy was just an example, but realistically, he's the only coach I'd be interested in from a performance POV, other than Bennett who is well taken and who I doubt would leave Australia anyway. So yeah, I'd love the success that a Bellamy would bring - but my team would never be the same again haha.
Seems to me that Bluey was always the target, possibly from when he first returned to NZ if not beforehand...

To those of you who disagreed with my last post criticising the delay in making an appointment:

This is no surprise. If Cleary had the confidence of the CEO and board they would have re-signed him for three more years, as he asked for. The fact they didn't suggests that his position was being reviewed. If this was the case the CEO-board must have been considering what other options were available. If this wasn't the case then surely, as Cleary had another year on his contract, the prudent thing to do would have been to hold him to his contract and take a year to make a decision.

This didn't happen - Cleary was released.

We are hearing that Phil is currently making decisions about players for next year - no doubt with Ivan's input. If Phil is doing this already does it make any sense that we leave our appointment so long that the new coach has no say in his squad for next year. (Again this year we are releasing more players than we are signing and we desperately need one or more class centres.)

Someone suggested we should be looking for the best coach - regardless of current commitments. I agree but there are possibly five coaches worldwide who could/should be appointed. Bluey & Bennett being two. One is here and wants the job. I am sure the others could be contacted (if they haven't been already) and asked their availability.

Why would the CEO listen to the fans? Good question and the answer is very simple. If he appoints anyone else he is staking his job on them succeeding. If they didn't I would expect the CEO to resign; it would be a gross lack of judgment. (A bit like Eden Park.)

If all the facts are on the table, this is an easy decision and should be completed quickly - for the club's sake. If there are other things coming into the decision (ie Blueys previous relationship with the club or the club's reluctance to meet any conditions he may want met) then I hope someone in the press gets to the bottom of it.

The appointment of Brian McClennan as Warriors coach for 2012 and beyond is imminent.

The former Kiwis coach is the favourite to take the reins when Ivan Cleary heads to the Penrith Panthers at the end of the season.

New Zealand rugby league football manager Tony Kemp believes it's a done deal.

Kemp says it's the worst kept secret in the game and if it's not announced on the weekend, it will be announced next week.

Kemp understands McClennan has been in Australia meeting with the owners of the Warriors.

All I know is Bluey is going to get one hell of an easy ride from the majority of the fans. I for one will love some of the stuff ozbash and Rich102 try come up with to take any blame of him if we fail next season.

Scurrah, Bell and Hart ?
you got confirmation that those 3 are making the big decision??

all ive heard is that its being handled "Internally".

which could just as likely mean the owner is gonna close his eyes and pick the coach from a stack of cards.

I would be fairly confident that Scurrah, Bell and Hart do actually make the decision. Obviously being a private enterprise with a board they would need to present their recommendation to the board for approval I would think. I think the chances of them turning down the men they pay I would dare say well and truly over six figures to make these kinds of decisions is fairly remote.

Whether it be Bluey or someone else, they'll be the luckiest coach in Warriors history in terms of what they're inheriting. A side with great depth, plenty of match experience mixed with up and coming talent, genuine pace and a professional work ethic. Would be unfair to expect too much early on, but unless we get destroyed with injury problems next year, anything less than a top 8 finish should be considered a major failure.
