Commentary that stays with you

Like a good (or usually bad) song, some commentary stays in your head for life.

A few I have are:

Ray Warren: "Put the ball down son!" - imploring Witt to dot it down v Storm in the 8 v 1 match of 2008.

Gould/Sterlo/Warren: "The Warriors think they've scored!...Oh, he's just short!...but he holds onto the football, well they're saying he's not held?...is there a hand on him there? No...this looks very much like a try to the Warriors!...here it is Rabbs...it's a try to the Warriors!...The Tigers fans don't believe it...The Warriors fans believe it!" v Tigers 16/9/11.

Kiwi commentator: "why didn't he pass?" Swann going it alone and being held up v Eels, semi-final at Ericsson 2007.

that half second or whatever that Witt held the ball above his head, has got to be the longest half second in
Warriors history and my life.Like a slow motion car crash in a movie...

What's up with that Crowded House forum? Is it active and/or worth joining? I wrote to them requesting membership but I've had no reply.

Not sure why that one would need to exist when we have this one?

Graeme Hughes "Seeennnnssaaatttioooonnnaaaal"

Ray: "And Faumuina, he threw a a pass the likes of which we've never seen".. "Tate.... OH! Here's a chance... And they're home!" (Meli intercepting a Tate pass to score)

What could have possibly gone wrong?

On this note, the minute and a half left to play once Inu had scored v Tigers was a very long time for me. I actually didn't look up once they kicked-off and just watched the crowd next to me.

What could have possibly gone wrong? The Warriors thinking they'd won, a Keith Galloway hit that rocked the ball loose, a frantic thirty second defence of our line, with Benji spinning it wide...

But back to commentary, I'm hearing a lot of "Johnsons" in my head these days.

From further back: Co-commentator: "A lot of the Warriors are keeping a wary eye on Ruben Wiki..." v Canberra, semi 2003. Wiki was menacing them with threatened big hits. This cracked my brother and I up, and still does. Those big Warriors forwards were scared!

That crazy Faumuina over-the-head pass to Evarn Tuimavave comes to mind, I'm sure it was Ray Warren.

"They're playing basketball! They're playing basketball!"

One that always stays with me, for some reason, was an earlier Warriors game with Graeme Hughes commentating. The Warriors had just scored a supposed try and the video ref was checking it. Hughes chimes in with "Surely it's a try". Then the video ref comes up with NO TRY and Hughes blasts "Aaww, Come on!"

Solid Gold.

Right mate, you're in (along with a few others). I lead that sub forum, but I'm not being notified of requests to join. Sorry it took a while, but I'll have the techs look at it.

Ray Warren " Everyone needs a Willie this big in their side" after Willie Mason scored a try ironically against his newest club The Knights. His other pearler was in origin calling Karmichael Hunt "Here is c### bringing it back!" . I swear I nearly have a laughing fit every time i hear it. It is a shame they don't have a live camera feed to the comm box because the reactions of his co- commentators must have been gold. No man was more relieved when K Hunt went to AFL. Here's the link.
