Competition points for byes

I don't like it. Why should a team get 2 points when they don't even play?

Completely pointless/non-issue.

Only thing it does is tinker with the table mid-season. At season's end there is ultimately no difference in the table whether they add bye points or not.

There is some conjecture over whether byes were awarded points in 1908.

Some news publications at the time suggested they did, others didn't, meanwhile there's next to no mention of whether they were or weren't in official reports because Trumper, Giltinan and Hoyle were quite disorganised and hopeless book keepers.

That alone was what lead to suspicions of them having a secret bank account and allegations that they were siphoning money from the NSWRL. Turns out there was another account but it was set aside for insurance and paying the rent to use some grounds for games.

It seems it is a bit easier to digest when reading the league table.

It seems easier to include the bye points instead of looking through the whole ladder in have to see who has played X amount of games when you just simply look at the bye column.

You can have the number of byes played column just don't give the teams 2 points for having a bye.

didn't one year Fagan say that it we got it from the soccer? that 2 points for a bye is fair in soccer with their points system (3 for a win) but its complete pointless if everyone plays the same amount of games and receives the same number of byes

I agree byes should be no points but the theoretical amongst us will realise that giving no points for a bye means a team loses. The bye is like a forfeit so you shouldn't lose to a team that forfeits.

Split the difference - one point.
