Rabbitohs Sign Paul Carter for Remainder of 2015 and 2016 seasons
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have signed utility forward Paul Carter for the remainder of the 2015 season, plus the 2016 season, today.

Carter, 23, is a former Australian Schoolboys, NSW Residents and NSW under 20s representative who made his first grade debut with the Gold Coast Titans in round one of the 2014 season, going on to make 21 appearances for the Gold Coast.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire is looking forward to having Carter join the squad.

“Paul showed during his time at the Titans that he is a quality NRL footballer and we’re looking forward to working with him and bringing him into our Club and our culture,” Coach Maguire said.

“Paul is very capable of performing consistently at the top level and with hard work and dedication he will have opportunities to ply his trade here at South Sydney.

“Paul will join our squad this week and during our discussions he has indicated that he will be working very hard to earn a place in our top 17.”

RLW says the roosters trio are till the end of 2019 which is smart if true. They may pay more than their current value but in a couple of years time when these guys could be killing it in first grade they will get a few years out of them on very modest contracts.

Manu is til 2017 and glad we got latrell til 2019. I believe most of our recent first grade re-signings like JWH,Napa and SKD all come off contract in 2017 as well so it's good to see a longer deal for latrell and Shaq

very smart play with regards to the Mitchells lads, may have cost them more short term than their worth, but will pay off at the back half of those deals if they live up to the hype surrounding them.

Agree mate, now have to trust our coaches to get them to reach their potential.

We did the same with the likes of RTS, Tupou, Napa, Guerra and Cordner. That led to a 3 year Premiership window with quality players on undervalued contracts.

That window will shut next year. But the hope is that the likes of Hastings and Mitchell quickly develop and give us another 2-3 year window from 2017 onwards.

Such is the salary cap era where scab clubs come over the top with huge offers for the successful clubs best players. It's the only way to maintain success... continually develop talented youngsters to replace the established players that go elsewhere.

This coming from a supporter of a team with no salary cap and guilty of poaching other clubs stars and most promising young talents. Nice.
