Peter Sterling was getting himself in a twist trying to say that this will be the biggest winning streak a side has ever taken into a Grand Final and won. Actually, it is the biggest winning streak any team has ever taken into a decider, regardless of the outcome, and by quite some way. The previous highest was 10 by Easts in 1935, Souths in 1955, Manly 1972 and Parra 2001.
Souths won the comp in 1925 with 12 straight wins, but it was first past the post that year. The Dragons in 1959 won the comp unbeaten, and were on a 20 game unbeaten run, but had drawn with Balmain in round 11, so their winning run was only 8.
