Continued disruption with Benji's future

you know i really hate what the nrl are doing. benji should be allowed to try and to make as much money as he wants. the nrl are oppressing him and if they dont stop acting like this then alot of the top players will tell the nrl to go to hell

It potentially undermines the salary cap, though. Say he gets 600K for the time he is overseas then Tigers could just pay him say 150K (maybe less) and then Benji gets 750K per season and the Tigers barely pay the average NRL salary

If I were Benji, I would want my moneys worth from the Tigers, no matter how much I got paid for playing Union.

I don't see why Benji would do his shoulders in Union. He's only ever done them trying to tackle running front rowers straight on.
Because the only players h has around him from the opposition are 400kg forwards, whether he's trying to tackle them or is being tackled by them and having them all on top of him in a maul, it's going to put a sh*tload of pressure on his fragile shoulders.

At least in the backline he can have some space and kick the ball out on the full whenever he likes, he'd also not be required to tackle, or get tackled anywhere near as much.

I agree that under a maul he could be in trouble, not sure that will happen though. I just can't see union ever producing a Paul Rauhihi charge like the one that buggered his shoulder in NQ.

Your dead right, of course he would.
If I came across $200k tomorrow I wouldnt tell my boss that he didnt have to pay me as much.
Gallop has a bee in his bonnet about this and is making up ridiculous reasons why it cant happen. I doubt he'd have the same reaction if it was a Lockyer a few years ago or the like.

Yeah but I think if Benji plays in Japan in the offseason then the NRL Clubs might not think he is worth quite as much because there is more chance of injury since he hasn't rested his body in the offseason. Also because he hasn't trained with the squad in the offseason. So clubs probably woudn't offer him as much but still more than some people are saying.

As much as I've previously held the opinion WT should not rush to sign Benji and leave it for a few games into the season to assess his fitness in NRL standard games I reckon give him week before the start of season (6 March) to either sign up or waive bye bye.

The team cannot have this continued unsettling commentary going on into the season- it has become greater than just Benji re-signing or not and taken on greater issues.

WT management should not be countenancing Benji doing this off season- he has not exactly been the most physically robust type in the past.

I'm getting sick and tired of hearing about him and rah rah.

If I was the Tigers Id be wanting my moneys worth from Benji, he has been nothing but a liability since his contract upgrade at the start of 2006. For his money we could get a decent half and a prop, Id be happy for him to fugg off.

no i havent..He has become like jarryd hayne and thinks hes god like and deserves everything but what he owes the tigers is some loyalty after they have payed him for sitting mostly on the sideline for the past few years...Theres always a new guy coming through..and benji aint the player he thinks he is

I wasn't even talking about what he may or may not ask for. I was saying that that is a way around the salary cap. Imagine if all the Storm players realised they could just top off their salary with a cameo stint with union, do you think any of them would leave?
