People are talking Mortimer for SOO? I really don't think so... maybe in 2-3 years time, barring injuries and with consistent experience and improvement.

Let's not get carried away offering this kid a Hayne-like contract yet... If he and his manager want to chase coin for next year before he's made it, then let him go and spend our money on players more interested in proving themselves first before cashing in.

And yes Pete, I think we need a "BS-watch" for all the talking up that managers do through the press, and for the compliant "journos" that just run with the (non)story.

Maybe I should have split my paragraphs up a bit more clearly.

People in the thread mentioned they wouldn't be surprised to see Morts play origin this year, to which I would be very surprised.

Morts manager is talking him up a treat to milk a big contract before he's achieved much at all in the game. The rep footy comment (if including city-country, which a lot of people in the game seem to want aboloished anyway) is part of that, but not the end of it.

Actually what was said was given the current selectors usually throw in a promising half (Carney, Mullen, Wallace, Campese, Pearce) at the start of the series and replace him with a veteran in the second game it wouldn't surprise them to see Mortimer picked for rep football.....

Going to Brisbane for SOO 2 - depends on the games on the weekend either side.
BTW The Souths Logan SOO lunch this year will feature Artie and the Crow (at least that's who they are trying to line up as guests)
Last year it was Guru and Choppy Close, Brett Kenny, Artie and Laurie Daley in 2008, Les Boyd and Daryl Brohman in 2007..
2010 will be my 50th season as a supporter of Parramatta and I have enjoyed every moment of it.
