Amen to that also !!!! First he was going to wait, then he was going to decide, now he is going to wait....
Whatever.
MHO is that as long as Ozzie doesnt break the bank I will offer him a decent contract. I still think that KK is a better footballer.
The one thing I dont want is for a drawn out battle for the kid.
Daniel knows what we offer here. If he wants to stay - he will stay.
If he wants to go - let him go.
Money is not the overriding factor.

While Daniel had a good season last year
it has yet to be seen if he can back it up this season
i certainly think we have more important players coming of contract that we need to get signed before mortimer
and i to agree with what Avaneger said, just make a decision and get on with playing

Mortimer banking on TV jackpot
GREG PRICHARD
February 23, 2010

WHICHEVER club signs Daniel Mortimer will get him for only two years, with his management set to position the 20-year-old potential superstar to take advantage of an anticipated dramatic increase in the NRL salary cap because of a monster television rights deal.

In what could quickly become a trend for sought-after players, Parramatta five-eighth Mortimer's agent, Steve Gillis, said yesterday he and his client were looking at a short-term deal when Mortimer signed a contract with the Eels or the other club involved in the battle for his signature, Canterbury.

Mortimer, who made a tremendous impact as a first-year rookie with the Parramatta team that went all the way to last year's grand final, is contracted to the Eels until the end of this season, and another two years would take him to the end of 2012, when the league's free-to-air and pay TV deals run out.

The salary cap stands at $4.2 million, but Gold Coast chief executive Michael Searle, who has been heavily involved in the push for an independent commission to run the game, last month predicted the cap could rise to as much as $6 million following the new TV deals.

Parramatta and Canterbury would both like to sign Mortimer to a long-term deal, but Gillis said it made sense to put the player in a position where his next contract ran out at the same time as the new deals took effect on the cap in time for the 2013 season.

''We're looking at a two-year deal, primarily because I think it's safe to predict the new TV rights deals will lead to an increase in the salary cap, and I believe Daniel is the type of player who will only get better, and can take advantage of that,'' Gillis said. ''If that is the case, then to negotiate beyond 2012 is quite risky, because we wouldn't want Daniel to undercut himself.

''I've got confidence in the NRL negotiating a bonanza deal with the TV rights. As a consequence, the cap could rise markedly, and since Daniel is not even 21 yet but already on the verge of playing representative football I think this is the way to go. We will play it safe, rather than risk being sorry.''

Mortimer would prefer to resolve his future before the season kicks off on March 12, but that seems increasingly unlikely. ''It's something you can't really rush into, but hopefully over the next few weeks I'll get it all sorted and I'll know what I'm doing for the next few years,'' he said yesterday. ''I haven't actually got an offer from either club yet, but I've been told that in the next few weeks I will, so I'll have to have a look at them and weigh those options up.''

Parramatta coach Daniel Anderson said he also hoped it could be worked out before the season began to avoid distracting Mortimer from his football. ''We've done everything, I think, to get him to stay at the club,'' Anderson said. ''We'd love him to stay.''

Mortimer seemed comfortable with what some other young players might find a difficult position.

Canterbury are the club for which his father, Peter, and uncles Steve and Chris played.

The Mortimer Name that he carries and his childhood memories of supporting the dogs will, I predict, be too much to resist for young Daniel.
He is a fine young footballer and man. Good luck to him in the future - but this year he bleeds for us........

Make him an offer and re-sign him for the two years cheaply then.

And if he wants to be a greedy merkin at the end of that, then happily let him go.

Sustained success comes from a balanced team that works well together and follows good coaching instructions - not from hanging onto too many high-earning individual "stars" and having the rest of your squad bottom out as a result.

If he is signing a two year deal to take advantage of the 2013 TV deal he'll stay at Parramatta. He is settled at the club and leaving to go to the Dogs next year has him having to re-start in a new environment. If he is going to try and bank on the tv deal he won't want to start again somewhere else when it is likely the tv deal will be announced well before the start of the 2012 season. Not sure I'm a big fan of the approach but as his manager states he will be the first of many.....

If they are taking the safe option on a two year deal than that sees him stay at the Eels and the Dogs are only being used to get the best from that deal.

while mortimer did some awesome things and looked promising in his debut year i still think he is a long long way off playing rep footy.

i'd like for him to stay at the club but i think mateo is the key signing right now. if mortimer decides to leave then let him go. the club should treat this situation the same way it did with tony williams and not be forced into paying more than the player is worth (and i am not against williams but he hasn't proven he is worth the money he left for at this point in time).

with the style of play the side adopted late last year robson has fitted in well and played his role and kk i think has shown he is more than capable of palying nrl.

Well the NSW selectors seem to like to throw in untested halves in the deep end, so it wouldnt suprise me if Morts got a run for NSW this year.

100% The priority should be Mateo. Mortimer goes ok but Mateo is main man. Just ask the Bulldogs, they know who's more important.

i am not liking mortimers swaying thoughts... eels, then the dogs, then eels again etc.
Morts and Gillis are trying to drive up his price...

Mateo is the one we need to keep, warriors are sniffing around really closely!

Chimes Gillis is doing his job....as he should be. Every extra dollar he can extract for his client means an extra six cents in his pocket...ie $6 per $100; $60 for $1000 $600 for $10,000 and $6000 for $100,000...
see, I told you I am not an idiot...and neither is Steve Gillis..
If you have 'good cattle' in your stable...the right kind of player..good money for the Manager.. it is a growing business, especially with the professionalism, and big money in all sports.
No wonder Steve moved on from journalism...

if he only looking for a 2 year deal and wants to cash in after that, whoever signs him now will have to go through it again. So his contract should only be his worth at the moment for a guy with limited first grade experience. Why pay for potential now when you will be at the negotiating table again in 3 years time.
