Cordoba

Hi guys, I'm a Hull FC fan and just got the news about Cordoba's signing, so thought I'd have a nosey to see what everyone thought about him.
Apparently he has a Spanish passport so we wont have any problems visa wise (like we had with Micheal Crocker and Hame Lauaki) Just to add Todd Byrne is now off our quota, as he was released after getting an injury that would have kept him out for the rest of his contract. Cusack will be out for the rest of the season too, so we needed a bit of help in the pack.
Any thoughts you guys have on him would be appreciated.
:)

He was very good in the Juniors and had very good 1st year but he just has not kicked on. We had high hopes for him but unfortunately he has not progressed.

This is not to say he won't make it, Maybe achange of club will suit him.

he did show a lot of promise in his first year. i think that esl seems to revolve around quicker play-the-balls which should suit josh better than nrl. hopefully he becomes a better player and realises his potential there, and who knows, maybe he returns to parra as a destructive ball runner.

G'day mate!

Cordoba was very promising for us, but as been said throughout this thread, he never really kicked on after showing some good signs early. The change of club may do him some good and his game style might be better suited to the English game. He is still young in terms of his development as a prop, so you may actually get some valuable use out of him, particularly if he does kick on at Hull. Best of luck to you guys over there.

By the way, just a quick question, how is our old English pal Chris Thorman doing? lol

Thanks for taking the time out to reply, lets hope he can do a job for us.
Just to answer about Chris Thorman, I don't know if you're being a bit mischievous :), but he's been a bloody nightmare for us. One performance away at the Leeds Rhinos a few weeks ago had him taken off at half time or he might have been lynched!
I have a feeling his contract wont be renewed at the end of the season, but we are talking about Hull FC here, we are fast becoming the soap opera of the ESL!
Good luck with the rest of the season fellas. :)

I actually think Josh will do really well over in the UK. Wihtout any offence intended the game is a bit softer, and I think it will suit Josh to a tee

Haha...I'm not sure if I'm joking around or not myself lol.

I ask because Chris had a season with us in 2004, after coming off a fantastic season with the then London Broncos in 2003 and I think he had some talent but he played behind a very average forward pack that was always dominated but he did have some touches of class with us, compiled with some very average touches, like most of our halves since the great Peter Sterling, he was a bit erratic.

I would have liked to have seen what he could have done with us behind a forward pack that dominated but it was best for his career and for us to go in different directions.

In the Hull games I've seen this year (I follow the SL through Sky Sports :D), when you won your first 4 or so I think it was? He seemed to be playing very well, his kicking game in particular, but since then I have only seen Hull slide down on the SL table, wondering what was going on.

Which leads me to ask, what exactly are the problems? Because I see your squad and I see the table they seem to be under-achieving, particularly when a team like Wakefield are in semi-finals contention! From a supporter's point of view what exactly is going on over there?

Best of luck to you guys too and hopefully you can move back into semi-final contention, our season is all but over, but we are a team on the rise and improve, the signs are there.

P.S. I was going to ask you a massive favour, if your up to it, it'd be nice to hear some updates/thoughts from an ESL supporter if your up to it and available??

Cheers mate, you have a good one :D

I think Josh will dissapoint you. Seeing as Hull FC's forward pack is lacking steel, Josh might be seen as a go to man, something he has never delt with very well.

We've ended up having the season from hell, ok, we have been really unlucky with injuries (for instance Motu Tony has just got back from a long term injury, only to have to go back and have surgery after being infected by an insect bite!) And of course you all will have heard about the Michael Crocker fiasco. It's just been one thing after another.
We did win our first 5 games, but to be honest it was with 5 drives and a kick rugby. Once every one cottoned onto this, we where banged to rights, We make good yardage, but have no idea whatsoever in the oppositions 20.
It hasn't helped having a young coach, who has admitted to feeling his way along to a certain degree. Richard Agar has been No 2 at the club for some time and took the step up when Peter Sharp was sacked. There has been calls for his head, but most of the fans want to give him a fair shot with his own team which he will have in place next season, and the Board, CEO etc seem to agree.
Meanwhile the fans have had to watch some absolute tripe, but thats how it goes. If you get to see last Saturdays home game against Leeds we played like puddings in the 1st half then really well in the 2nd. I hope we can carry that that 2nd half form and maybe get a play off place.
But I won't hold my breath, the heart goes through enough being an FC fan lol.

PS what do you mean about updates? To you personally or on here? :)

Yes, thought he played exactly like a young Cayless early on, but got far too comfortable in the Hagan era, he actually showed a little spark after being dropped this year, but again, just wasn't good enough overall, he had his chances...best of luck too him though

Im curious, I saw the game you guys had against Leeds and saw a few dodgy refs calls. But the English dont tend to complain about the referee much? is that just my imagination and Aussies just hate the refs because its in our culture?

Well in the end 2 very dodgy calls cost us the game, although the way we played especially in the first 10 mins didnt help none!
We all give the refs as much crap as I'm sure you do, but officially its frowned on. Justin Morgan the coach of our city rivals Hull KR got slapped with a £4,000 fine for criticising a referees performance.
We have a very small pool of refs and they tend to get away with murder. Look out for the French ref Tierry Alibert (or Diedre Hallibut as we call him) he is that bad he has his linesmen coming on to tell him what to do, and thats not a joke, it happened at the KC Stadium when I was watching the FC!

Hull sign Aussie prop Cordoba
Tuesday, 07 Jul 2009 17:53

Hull FC have signed Australian prop forward Josh Cordoba on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old joins from NRL side Parramatta Eels, for whom he has made over 50 appearances including nine this season.

However, with Hull suffering a number of injury problems in the front row the Super League club have moved to bolster their ranks with the signing of Cordoba until the end of the year.

Head coach Richard Agar said: "Obviously with the injuries to Cusack, Dowes and Thackray we have been left very light in the front row.

"Josh will help shore us up in that department. He is a good player with plenty of experience and is looking forward to getting here."

Cordoba holds a Spanish passport and therefore is not subject to the normal visa restrictions on Australian players heading to the UK.

He is expected to go straight into the Airlie Birds' first-team squad ahead of this Sunday's match at Castleford Tigers.

Chief executive James Rule added: "Whilst it is very frustrating to be sustaining more injuries I am delighted that we have been able to be proactive and secure a player mid season to help bolster our squad."
