Hull FC: Cordoba ready for debut
Hull FC's new signing Josh Cordoba
JOSH Cordoba will make his debut for Hull FC on Sunday after coming through his first training session.
The 25-year-old flew into Manchester Airport this morning before being taken directly to Hull's training ground.
After a short introduction to his new team-mates, the loan signing from Parramatta Eels was immediately put through his paces.
With Ewan Dowes and Jamie Thackray both ruled out for six weeks and Hame Lauaki still yet to arrive, Cordoba will be drafted in to Hull's line-up to take on Castleford on Sunday.
Speaking after training today, coach Richard Agar told the Mail: "Josh has come through his first session well.
"He arrived this morning, met the guys and joined in. He's in good shape and he'll go straight into the squad for Sunday."

The former Parramatta forward rejected a late approach from Wests Tigers to sign with Hull FC and could play against Castleford today after the Eels granted him an immediate release.

Injury-hit Airlie Birds fall 24-0 behind inside 26 minutes at The Jungle
Last updated: 12th July 2009
Castleford maintained their push for a play-off place with an impressive 40-18 victory over Hull FC at The Jungle.
Rangi Chase and Michael Wainwright scored two tries apiece to help the Tigers clinch just their third home win of the season, their last being back in March.
The victory moves them into a five-way tie for fifth spot in the Super League table with Wigan, Harlequins, Wakefield and Warrington also on 20 points.
Willie Manu, Jodie Broughton and Kirk Yeaman crossed in a losing cause for the Airlie Birds, who are now four points adrift of their opponents in 11th place.
Hopes disappeared
Looking to turn their season around, Hull's hopes of clinching just a second win in their last seven outings disappeared in the space of 25 minutes.
Tommy Lee's wayward pass allowed Castleford to break the deadlock after just four minutes, Chase intercepting to enjoy an easy run-in.
Dean Widders went close to crossing, knocking on as he attempted to touch down, before Craig Huby did score thanks to a clever kick by Ryan Hudson.
Although Hull did manage to deny Chris Feather, the ball was moved out wide where Chase and Brett Ferres combined to put Wainwright over on the left.
Hudson, back in action after 12 weeks out with a broken arm, then claimed a fourth after an excellent burst from Ryan Clayton through a paper-thin Hull defence.
Joe Westerman slotted over all four conversions to make it 24-0 after just 26 minutes, though it could have been even more had full-back Richard Owen not been denied on three occasions by the officials.
The Black and Whites eventually got themselves on the board just before the break, Manu barging his way over to score against his former employers.
However, Castleford were in no mood to take their foot off the gas in the second half, with Chase - playing in his more familiar half-back position, leading the way.
Clever dummy
The New Zealander produced a clever dummy to get his second of the contest out wide before showing his talents in defence, getting back to make a brilliant tackle to deny Danny Tickle.
Chase could do little to stop Yeaman finding his way to the line, though, with Richard Whiting adding the conversion for the visitors.
Ryan McGoldrick set up Michael Shenton to put paid to any hopes of a Hull comeback and then Wainwright grabbed a seventh try for the Tigers. Westerman kicked the extras to finish with a personal haul of 12 points.
Although the injury-hit Airlie Birds - who gave a debut to loan recruit Josh Cordoba - had the last word, Broughton getting a last-minute try, it was no more than a mere consolation effort.
The former Parramatta forward rejected a late approach from Wests Tigers

Chase scored two tries as Castleford brushed Hull aside
A superb display from Rangi Chase saw Castleford move into a five-way tie for fifth in the battle for the play-offs.
Chase intercepted in the fourth minute to open the scoring and Craig Huby, Michael Wainwright and Ryan Hudson also crossed the line in the first half.
Kiwi Chase scored again soon after the break after a neat wrong-footing dummy.
Hull were given hope with 20 minutes left when Kirk Yeaman went over but Michael Shenton and Wainwright sealed victory for Terry Matterson's Tigers.
Castleford coach Terry Matterson:
"The way we approached the game was really enthusiastic. Our defence got us on the front foot, and then we dominated possession.
"You've got to be pleased with a win like that. We've got a couple back to back now, and it puts us in the mix with those sides on 20.
"Our record on the road is outstanding. But there have been some frustrations at home, so that was great.
"We're going into the run-in now and we are positioned OK. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are on the right track."
Hull coach Richard Agar:
"I think in isolation we have got some blokes that are trying their hardest and busting a gut to try to get us a result and pick the team up. But it is a team game, and unless we get 17 blokes pulling in the right direction it becomes hard work.
"After the start to the game it leaves me questioning with some of these blokes where rugby sits on their list of priorities.
"They had us in disarray at times with their kicking game, and Richard Horne was doing so much covering around the back that it was bedlam for the poor fella."
Castleford: Owen, Dixon, Shenton, Huby, Widders, Wainwright, Chase, McGoldrick, Sargent, Hudson, Ferres, Clayton, Westerman.
Replacements: Jones, Feather, Netherton, Higgins.
Hull: R. Horne, Broughton, G. Horne, Yeaman, Raynor, Thorman, Berrigan, Lee, King, Cordova, Manu, Tickle, Radford.
Replacements: Houghton, Whiting, Burnett, Moa.
Head Coach Richard Agar revealed his bitter disappointment after watching Hull FC go down 40-18 to Castleford Tigers at the Jungle.
Asked at the after match Press Conference whether he was disappointed, Agar replied: That is an understatement.
He added: You usually find that if one team runs harder than the other and one team tackles a little bit harder than the other then they tend to gain the upper hand. If both teams are running and tackling as hard as each other then plenty of other factors come into play.
Unfortunately, their were no other factors for us in that opening spell (Hull trailed 24-0 after 25 minutes).
They ran harder, got through the line and played on the front foot. I thought it was as simple as that. They ran and tackle hard and we didnt and that is a huge disappointment in a game that was quite pivotal for us.
I thought this game was massive in terms of how we could finish in the table, especially as we were playing a team in very much the same bracket as us. But wins are very hard to come by at the moment and were not getting much back.
Looking to find a positive, Agar said: In isolation I thought we have got some guys who are trying their hardest and busting a gut to get a result and pick the team up. But as we have said before it is a team game and unless we have 17 players pulling in the right direction it becomes hard work.
The start to the game does leave me questioning a bit where rugby sits in the list of priorities of some people.
In the second half Hull brought on Richard Whiting for scrum half Chris Thorman and Whiting stepped in at full back to allow Richard Horne to partner Shaun Berrigan.
Agar added: I thought Rich pepped us up a bit and for the second week running he played pretty well. He played with plenty of enthusiasm and certainly added a little bit of eagerness to what we were doing.
Looking at new signing Josh Cordoba, Agar said: Hes only just arrived and give him a couple more weeks to settle in and hell be okay - hes the least of our worries.
As expected prop Cordoba was drafted straight into the team after jetting in on Thursday from Australia to take up a short term contract until the end of the season.
The former Sydney Rooster replaced the injured Jamie Thackray (hamstring). The good news for Hull was Richard Horne, who picked up an eye injury against Leeds, was given the all clear.
He retained the full back spot with Chris Thorman and Shaun Berrigan teaming up at half back and second row Danny Tickle packed down with Willie Manu and Lee Radford at the base of the scrum despite a fractured bone in his hand.
It was Tickle who got the game in motion with a good deep kick and Hull restricted Castleford to kick inside their own half. When King was adjudged to have knocked on at the play the ball, Castleford had the first chance to apply pressure which they did but Raynor moved smartly to tackle Widders as Chase tested the winger with a teasing kick.
Good pressure by the Castleford defence restricted Hull and they struggled to get out their own 20 metre zone. King almost lost the ball and as Hull looked to get clear Lees pass went straight to Chase who had a clear run to the line.
Westerman made no mistake with the kick and with four minutes gone Castleford led 6-0 and Hull needed to settle and put together some back to back sets and pressure the home sides defence.
A penalty for offside gave them a chance and Hull came strongly through Berrigan before Lee made a dangerous charge for the line. The moved ended with a rather tame kick by
Berrigan, which fell straight to Huby.
With 10 minutes gone Chase forced a drop out with a towering kick which Horne had looked to guide over the dead ball line but had to knock dead under pressure from the Castleford chasers.
From the drop out Castleford looked threatening and they almost increased their lead when Sargent had a try disallowed. Chase put in a teasing kick but it was knocked on by a team mate who had challenged Tickle for the bouncing ball.
At this stage Castleford were looking the more threatening side and were enjoying most of the territorial advantage.
Manu almost got through and then Berrigan tried a little chip kick but Owen was alive to the situation and just beat the scrum half to the ball.
Hull worked play up field and Thorman tested Dixon but then they gave away the position with a penalty and Castleford were soon back in the Hull half. It proved a costly penalty as well because on the back of it the Tigers increased their lead.
Hull was caught when Huby darted through to touch down from Hudsons kick near the line and Westerman added the goal to stretch their lead to 12-0. Hull then put pressure back on themselves when Tickle kicked out on the full which gave Castleford a penalty on half way.
Once again Hull paid for giving possession away when they were caught short of numbers on their right hand side and Michael Wainwright made the extra numbers count. Westerman added his third goal and Hull now trailed 18-0.
Once again they gave Castleford easy metres out of their half when they gave away a penalty on the second tackle from the kick off.
It almost cost them another try but this time Owen just couldnt get his fingers to his own kick with 23 minutes gone.
Castleford did stretch their lead two minutes late when Clayton broke through in midfield and Hudson was up in support to race away to the line and leave Westerman with a simple kick to leave Hull 24-0 behind.
The pressure was relentless and when Broughton failed to take Cases kick Castleford were looking for another score and they almost got one but Owen couldnt quite get to another teasing kick in Hulls in goal area.
On the back of a penalty for an infringement in the tackle Hull finally got on the scoreboard when Manu used his strength to twist and turn out of a tackle to score. Tickle added the extras and with 30 minutes gone Hull had given themselves a much needed lift.
Hull now needed to capitalise on this score and start putting a bit of doubt into the Castleford minds. They made a big effort and after Houghton almost dart through Berrigan looked to have scored but referee Jamie Leahy said he had been held up.
Another penalty deep inside the Castleford half gave the Tigers easy metres to clear their lines and they did well with Shenton threatening on their right. Hull found themselves under unnecessary pressure again but on this occasion they managed to survive.
When Radford knocked on just inside his own half Castleford went desperately close to adding to their lead but excellent defence by Richard Horne and Raynor managed to hold Owen up.
The pressure wasnt off and Hull had to scramble out of trouble. Just before half time Hull produced their best move of the half and Manu went close to breaking through after great work by Raynor and Thorman and then Moa went close to what would have ben a vital score.
If Hull needed a spur to start the second half they got one when Dixons kick off went straight into touch. Hull applied the pressure and Berrigan and Houghton produced a superb piece of inter passing and it almost paid off with Burnett coming through on the burst and going inches from scoring.
With five minutes of the half gone the Hull defence stood off and Chase made the most of it to score his second try of the game. Westerman couldnt add the extras on this occasion but the score line still read 28-6 and not what a large following of Hull fans wanted.
Hull, who brought on Whiting for Thorman, were immediately back on the defensive when they were given offside from the kick off but an error by Castleford gave Hull possession back.
Whiting went to full back, a position he had played well in against Leeds the previous week, and that allowed Richard Horne to link up with Berrigan at half back.
Hull needed something special from these two if they were going to pull back a 22 point deficit. Horne tried a kick for the right hand corner but Raynor couldnt knock it back and Castleford immediate responded.
The Tigers moved quickly to the other end of the field where Yeaman smartly defused a kick in his in goal area and from the resulting 20 metre tap Hull moved swiftly down their right where Graeme Hornes pass was touched by Wainwright and they got the feed at the scrum.
Hull was unable to create the score they desperately needed to give themselves a half chance of getting back into the game. However, they continued to push forward and with 58 minutes gone Yeaman got the break when he used his strength to finish off a cross field move. Whiting took on the kicking duties and landed a superb goal from the touch line to reduce the arrears ton 28-12 with some 20 minutes still to play.
Back came Hull looking for another score and they came close but second rower Burnett was denied for a second time. Berrigan created the gap only for the Castleford defence to close the second rower down inches from the line.
With eight minutes to go Whiting denied Dixon a try with a superb tackle on the line after Broughton had failed to defuse Chases towering kick. Hull could do nothing about the next try as Shenton shot through a gap created by McGoldrick. Westerman added the goal to extend Castlefords lead to 34-12.
Hull was back under pressure when they were given offside from the kick off for a second time in the match. Castleford struck again when Wainwright went in for his second try with two minutes to go and Westerman made it 40-12 with his sixth goal of the game.
Hull did have the last say when Broughton intercepted McGoldricks pass and raced 50 metres to the line and Whiting added the goal to leave the final score at 40-18.
