I think it still counts, and I think we're still paying him. Kind of like when cops mess up and they are put on leave with pay as a punishment.

I don't really know how that works - but it sounds like you're saying that when cops get put on leave without pay, they still get paid, and so Norman will still get paid, and we get no kind of discount

Ok, thanks for explaining!

no... I said leave with pay, sometimes they do get put on leave without pay as well, but then that wouldn't be the same thing... I don't think anyone gets paid when they are put on leave without pay.

It's an interesting question though, If he isn't going to be paid, would we get a discount for the remainder of the year? it's not like it matters though, we can't sign anyone from another club, it'd only be useful for an outside signing.

If we assume the media is right and he's on 500K this year, the saving would be roughly 76-77K, so not that huge of a discount really..

First of all I would like to say that Corey Norman is a silly silly young man for becoming involved in all these indiscretions and is deserving of all the punishments both community and NRL.
He is however one of our best buys football wise for the last 5 years. I truly admire his skills and have enjoyed much entertainment from the football he plays.
I sincerely hope that this series of events is enough to wake him up and that down the track we can truly label him as one of Parramatta's best ever players.

Do you mean 'suspended' with pay? Police can be suspended with pay whilst an internal investigation is being undertaken to see if the officer has done anything wrong. They still get paid and fair enough but are suspended from work.

Given that we won't be playing Finals in any case it will at least give people an opportunity for the remainder of the season to see if they're worthwhile. We might as well give Cornish a run when he is fit to show what he's got.
It'd be good to see both Cornish, (when fit), an king given a run to see how they go.

Player contracts include clauses that allow the club to deduct a portion of their salary if suspended. But it is not a straight 1/26 percentage for each week as suggested above. Nowhere near that. It is a very low percentage - could even be less than 1% for each game served. Very minimal.

Corey just needs to grow up, he comes across quite immature to me.
hopefully this is a wake call to him to grow up if not i wouldn't be too upset if he moved on.

Corey Norman is a RL player not a policeman.
and
Paul Sutton doesn't manage cops.

Lol..
Triple M headline "Norman has played final game for Parra".
Read article - just sayings he's suspended until the end of the year, nothing about signing elsewhere for beyond.

Dumb question (but pertinent given this year): does his salary count against the cap the rest of the year?

Working on the assumption a suspension might mean he doesn't get paid for those 8 weeks?

If he'd been suspended for a spear tackle would we have go cap relief? Nope.

He'll get paid, but possibly fined lightly by the club...but either way it shouldn't affect his cap value.

Just for El D....I'm sure John Grant put in a different rule for the Roosters while Pearce was suspended for 8 weeks earlier this year, and he's also allowed them to bet that salary cap saving on a greyhound that won at 20/1 during June, so the Roosters have a cap of $10 million for 2017.
