THE Bulldogs have bolstered their playing stocks for 2010 with the addition of Corey Payne.
The Bulldogs junior will return to The Kennel following stints with the Dragons and the Tigers after agreeing to a one-year deal earlier this week.
The giant back-rower has yet to live up to his potential but Bulldogs insiders are tipping big things from Payne under coach Kevin Moore

...................................................................................................

The article is spot on- has failed to live up to potential now at 2 clubs. I wish him luck, he is a good club man and presents a good image for the clubs comunity relations, but he will never be more than an average footballer. Had his moments but....................

hurrah!

Are we still clearing up space for another signing?

Nah, he had already been released a few weeks ago now- (with Trimarchi & Dunley). The argument is there for WT to expend their remaining signing energy on getting another back up prop rather than waste time trying to rope in Taquiri- I certainly agree with that thinking.

I think when all this is over we should go through all the posts and count up all the different ways we have spelt "Tuqiri" since he has been linked to us.

But I do agree another big bopper would be fantastic.

Mea Culpa- I have never bothered to even check how he has spelt his name I am that disinterested in WT chasing his signature.

The exit of Payne and Morris poses some real problems for WT Management.

Who will be wheeled out to visit hospitals, rehab clinics, Darren from Campbelltown who's fallen on hard times after his 27th consecutive year of unemployment, children of bogan parents whose only christmas presents are a carton of winnie reds, the MND centre. And given O'Hara and Payne have now left who will join T Payten in the 4.6m/hitup stakes.

I hope the club has thought long and hard about it ...

Is it official that Trimarchi is gone? What's happening with Rhys Hanbury and Josh Lewis?

I have heard Josh Lewis is headed back to Qld area. I'll try and find some references but the thing that gives me the sh*ts is that they just disappear off the WT website as squad members and nothing said:

from memory the disappeared are as follows:
Trimarchi
Dunley
Hanbury
Payne

Payne has since resurfaced signed with Bulldogs.

It's a bit hypocritical to be asking the club to think about something when your post clearly shows that you don't know the first thing about thinking.

Good to see... hopefully this opens up the door for J Shirnack to get a run this year. I think this guy is going to really good for us going forward. Also, would be good to see Dwyer get more time in first grade as a replacement for D Galea.

What does everyone think about A Fifita? Will he realistically get a run this year? I think he is a player for the future but still very raw at this stage.

Yeah, good prospect but still too young, needs some serious NSW Cup work to get him ready for the big time.

I dont think you can knock him back based on age. Think about it, what differentiates Fifita from Lawrence, Gibbs, Tagive, Ashyford - they were blooded at a young age.

I think his size gives him an advantage for starters..

Playing in the forwards is a lot tougher on the body than playing in the backs.

I think a decent apprenticeship in the reserves helps get forwards up to speed. The intensity just isn't there in the U20s and the 20s straight to the NRL is usually going to be too big a step for a forward.

A season or two of playing against fully grown men week in week out will make him a much better player and potentially help him avoid injuries which could hinder his career.

Just my opinion.

100% agree - younger players tend to do ok in the backs but not so well in the forwards. There are exceptions of course, but hate to ruin his career by getting him smashed too early.

What's the difference; our current forwards (with the exception of Ellis & Galloway) pretty much get smashed every week anyway right? Heighno get's nailed. Gibbs falls once he hits the line. Payten gets driven backwards. Everyone is calling for Fulton to be reinstated but he too gets driven backwards with ease.
Maybe if we threw a young meathead in there that wants to prove himself and brings a bit of passion we might develop a decent forward pack for the future.
Fifita looks like a hard nut. If he ruins his career from what will inevitably be a tough initiation then he shouldn't be an NRL front rower.
Sometimes you just need to step outside the square…. unfortunately given the past performance and selection of the Tigers forwards that time has come.

Opposition teams do not fear the Tigers forwards - by keeping these young hard nuts in reserves for the next two years the opposition's mentality will not change. This means out forward pack continues to be laughing stock of the NRL and we wait even longer for the fearsome forward pack that each Tigers supporter yearns for.

Either blood these young hard nuts now or go sign decent forwards, I'll even take Willie Mason. Whatever the choice, just not Payten and Gibbs heading up our pack anymore....

I hear you McFly, I just don't agree with blooding the youngsters too early. I'd rather give some of them another year to grow, another year in the gym, another year of lesser lower grade contact if thats what they need. I would have loved Lima to join Galloway up front, I hope Cayless goes alright, I hope they make a play for Clinton. I would NOT like to see Willie Mason destablise our club from within like he has done everywhere else he has been.

We are all frustrated McFly. Sending the kids in to the front line too early is just too risky. I'd much rather we nurture the young forwards so they can be a threat to the opposition for years to come instead of throwing them in the deep end now then throwing them onto the NRL scrapheap in a couple of years when their bodies buckle from too much strain before they have filled out.

It would be nice to have Clinton, and Cayless could be great if he can keep his fitness up.
