It’s worth a go and in a compromised season with less to lose its the right time to do it.

it just compromises this season even more. It's now just an extended preseason comp.

Changes like this are definitely worth being looked at but proper discussion and analysis is required before being implemented. PVL and his merry men on the commission saying we are doing it discussion over just seems reckless

But what about the reverse situation, which is one we see often in the game.

A team puts in an awesome defensive effort and defends 3 or 4 back to back sets on their line. The opposition make a mistake and give the ball away then lie all over the tackle. At that point, the last thing the team with the ball wants is a reset which is just an extra tackle. They want the penalty, so they can have a few seconds breather, get down field a bit and then try and dictate play.

This new rule will penalise that. Tired players make more mistakes than fresh ones.

Tired players are less likely to waste energy rushing up to Wrestle too. Fatigue is a good thing

If refs would actually bin players for wrestling tactics (look at the grand finalists last year) we wouldn’t need to do this...but they won’t. Hence this is actually worth a go. Means defensive lines can’t be reset over and over. The Roosters in particular were happy to give penalty after penalty on their line.

Got to love PVL's pure lies:

"The only difference is the second referee will be on the touchlines, not on the field.
We need the touch judges to do more anyway. These are experienced referees, not touchies, so they will have a job to control the ruck and the wrestle."

Touch Judges in the NRL are experienced referees. They have always assisted referees with on-field calls. However, it is the discretion of the referee in the centre to make the call. The pocket referee could blow the whistle if required - a touch judge can't.

PVL is a typical rugba leeg fan who has no understanding of how things actually operate. Of course, he could have consulted the referees and he would have known, but why do that?

Haven't had the chance to read through the past few pages but jeez. 6 again rule. Gives me even more incentive as player to hold down longer than normal those first two play the balls.

Thought about getting a quick play the ball on tackle 0 Fergo because of that shitty dead ball kick from my halfback? Nope not today Junior. This can only be balanced by ensuring referees act on sin bins. So really, more referee intervention ..

Well that myth has been debunked many times but assuming it's true, we now can just lay all over the ruck when in trouble on our own line. By the time 6 again is called and we take another couple of seconds to get off, the line is set with no danger of 2 points being conceded and the likely next play by the opposition will be a settler anyways to compose themselves for the set.

Of course if we take the piss the ref is now in the ridiculous position of being able to interperet intent and game situation and give a penalty which is the same situation as now.

This rule change achieves nothing and will lead to more inconsistency and confusion.

Gould, Joey and the rest will have a field day arguing all game that a 6 again call should of been a penalty and vice versa while complaining the the refs ‘have lost their feel for the game’

The funny part is that most of those in the full time squad have not been touch judges in ages, they have been specialist referees. Not all good referees make good touch judges due to the differences in what they do, and some referees view being a touch judge as a demotion and officiate accordingly. Heck I learned that from direct experience of 4 years on field refeereing in junior league and also from comments by mates of mine who are now retired NRL touch judges.

Exactly.

The refs are on a hiding to nothing with this rule change and i don't blame them for complaining.

The 6 again rule may or may not work who knows...BUUUT, VLandy's is trying to end the wrestle which surely we all want.

I reckon banning three man tackles would have been more effective. Two in the tackle would speed the game up and do away with wrestling. Youd need to cut substitutions as well to do away wioth just having big men running it up all game but thats ok. Time to try it is in a pre season though, not in middle of a comp lol.

So if 2 blokes cant stop someone on the line bad luck? Or would it be more like the stripping rule where you can do it in try scoring scenarios?

I think the rule should be if there are 3 in the tackle, the tackle doesn't count towards in the tackle count.

Ch 7 news reporting cartwright has been cleared to play by Qld's CHO after pleading his case re a previous bad reaction to a flu jab.

Funny how neither he nor his silly partner have argued this until now.

as Gould said, talking to anti-vaxxers is like talking to a brick wall.

Bryce's mrs has been pulling the strings in all of this. Refusing the vac gave her a platform to spruik her nonsense. The threat of Bryce losing his salary then forced her hand and made them announce some garbage about a previous bad reaction.
