Could this be the new NRL theme song?

So what is going on with this song? Have any of you put the song forward to an official yet? Or have we just been wasting our time trying to do something good for the NRL.

This is a good song, let me tell you. Remember the name The Surgeons. You will hear of us again, and maybe that will be too late. We might be too big to want to use one of our songs for the NRL....

Are you for real?

This is the funniest thread I've read in a while.

It's almost bloody 3am. I'm getting yelled at to go to bed, last thing I do is check the forum and I see this post. WTF. How arrogant do you want to get? It's one thing to be proud of your song, good for you if you are.

But to go around expecting us to market your song for you when that's your job. Get real. Then your post goes from arrogant to so crazy I'm considering the possibility that your just a joker. Seriously? You'll be too big to want your song as the NRL themesong? What are you on? Because I got a big night tomorrow night and I want some.

You're even more confident in your band than I am in Souths winning the premiership in 2011. And that's saying something.

Now I'm going to go to sleep while trying to decide if you're a troll or a crazy guy in a chemically altered state of mind. And that makes me mad because I don't like to think most of the time, let alone when I'm trying to go to sleep.

 Brilliant.

I dropped a copy to Dave Gallop yesterday arvo. He told me he'll get back to you shortly.

Druid25, I decided to have another listen to your song and on a second listen it actually sounds half decent - with a little polish it would sound amazing. The lead singer reminds me of a cross between a young George Michael and Freddy Mercury, not just in voice but also mannerisms and personality whilst the guy on guitar has more chops then Peter 'The Mad Butcher' Leitch.
If you're interested I can get you in contact with a couple of people in the music business that I know - Art Vandaley, an importer/exporter who really knows his stuff and Ian Faith one of the best band managers of the 80's who is always looking for new bands to tap into. I'm sure both Art and Ian would be happy to listen to what you've got and maybe set up a meeting with NRL head music honcho and former bears player Jason Martin.
If you're interested let us know next time you post and I will see what I can do.
Don't let the knockers knock you down.

Cheers.

Thanks TheRam,

That is the kind of useful comment we were expecting when the song was first posted. Although, I must disagree that it requires polishing, we like it raw. Our aim is most definately to have the song heard by a powerful man who may happen to be on these forums. Someone like Russell Crowe would be ideal.

Now, I must have my say to many of the other posters who have not provided any constructive comments whatsoever. Infact TheRams post was one of the only intelligent posts. To say the singer is crap is offensive. I myself am the singer and it was very difficult to put this up for the world to see. To say such things about me is hurtfull (not only to me but also my friends and family who are on this site) and to be honest wrong. I have had many music teachers tell me that I am a good singer.

Also the fat guy on the couch, as you put it so coldly, well he is my friend. He had major learning difficulties as a child so he would not be able to sing it like me, leave your cheap shots outside please.

For those who are supporting us in this quest to have this song as a background tune for next years SOO adds I have attached chords and lyrics for you to sing along with.

To be the Best
Chords: C, F, Am, G
I lived a dream
I was a cat amongst the pigeons
The reflex of a snake, the eye of a hawk
broke the shackles
F G
What does it take?
F G
I'll tell you what it takes.
To be the best, you need courage
To be the best, you need strength
To be the best, you need a heart of gold
Yeah, I’ve had my struggles
My head’s been down
I followed the bad path
But I’m back at the top
What does it take?
I'll tell you what it takes.
To be the best, you need courage
To be the best, you need strength
To be the best, you need a heart of gold
(Solo)
I lived a dream
I was a cat amongst the pigeons
The reflex of a snake, the eye of a hawk
I broke the shackles
What does it take?
I'll tell you what it takes!
To be the best, you need courage
To be the best, you need strength
To be the best, you need a heart of gold
(Clap bridge)
I am the best (You are the best)
I am the best (You are the best)
I am the best (No, you are the best)
We are all the best.

I fixed it.

for all the people trying to play along to it at home.

also sorry about the fat dude comment ....he just looks like he could rock ...like Jack Black.

Who the f**k is we and I?

A new band that has never played a gig?

Hint: You don't demand credibility when you have none.

Far better bands spent years toiling for that privilege.

People like you are the only reason I watch the first few episodes of those reality singing shows. To watch overconfident fools get shot down to size.

....please keep posting.

I just wanna know how so many seemingly ( not the lead guitarist or chunky "the hangover " dude on lounge sucking piss) normal blokes could not see how much the lyrics suck.

had to be said.

My god. I just watched the video.

Here's some constructive criticism....

1. You can't sing. There is no question about it. Listen to your voice in the bridge when you go high. It sounds pathetic. The rest of the time its a monotonous warble. Get lessons or quit.

2. Learn what melody is. And hooks. You (try and) sing like 3 notes in the entire song with no distinct hook. The song is.....boring as bat $hit.

2. Using a $30 keyboard is cool if it was $30 in 1974 and has a distinct tone to it. Using a p.o.s keyboard that they wouldn't even use at a play school music night is hysterical.

4. Tell your guitarist to read up on tone.

5. Learn dynamics.

6. Tell an acoustic guitarist to not bother if he's going to play unplugged next to an acoustic drum kit.

7. Don't ever try to show people your band by uploading a video recorded with a video camera microphone.

8. As per most other comments, rugby league is a high intensity game which works well with music with a moderate to fast tempo. A song like that would work more-so in a will ferrell comedy where he celebrates winning a regional hula-hoop competition against a 5 year old .

Am I the only one who reads 'you need a heart of gold' and wonders whether this song would've fitted nicely into the Wizard of Oz?

c'mon now Druid dont get down. Are you a cat amongst the pigeons? Or are you a snake with the eyes of a hawk!

Be like the hawk-snake and break the shackles of the bad path. Remember, you gotta have a heart of gold to be the best. Live the dream and good luck

LOL!! at this guy, such an underrated reply, that was hilarious. as for the song I thought it was freakin badass, you got my seal of approval brother, you keep it up and I get the feeling one day we'll hear the surgeons playing live on grand final day.
