Well looks like the stupidity continues.

Covell will be partnering Gravy in the Magpies second row on Saturday.

On a brighter note we get our first look at Brett Atkinson, but he's pushed Duff to the wing, which never makes sense to me. Wests have also signed an ex-junior who was playing Union Fotunuupule AUELUA who is supposedly a monster, and if he can be cleared in time will play Flegg.

Hmm well I know your in the know but that seems very strange. I spoke to a player who told me Luke was playing 1st's this week.

What the hell? That's ridiculous. Poor bugger. If sheens didn't want to use him, he could have let superboot find another club. There'd be places out there where he wuold be playing first grade...

That's what really disgusts me. If they hadn't of signed him last year there is no doubt he'd have gone to another club where he'd be playing First Grade kicking a swag of goals and looking forward to a future.

This crap though might even make it hard for him to get a gig in 05. Even England will be off limits because he won't have played enough first grade. The whole thing stinks.

Well if Covell isnt in the side,I guess we would be looking at the Halatau or Harrison at starting centre.

Both are worthy of a start so I suppose we shouldnt dwell too much on Covell not getting picked.I really wanted him in the side for his boot not his play. The other two are possible centre stars so good luck to who ever gets it.

Cheers.

id like to see harrison get a start.

halatau has been doing well off the bench (apart from the dragons game), so leave him there.

manly dont have the strongest centres, so put harrison up against torrens.

he'll do well.

..... i'm still pissed about covell though

We seem to be always the last this year - I don't think I've seen the team announced before around 6ish yet

I'm a huge fan of bronsons but I wouldn't be rewarding his woeful performance against saints with a starting spot

I don't completely hold him accountable for it - making your debut late in the game when your team is getting flogged cannot be easy - he'll bounce back no doubt

but neither do I see an argument for putting him in the starting side straight after that game

i know what your saying brook. i thought about that too.

i think, however, with a full game in his prefered position he would do well.

im sure he knows he played poorly.

he'd be right.

Most of you will be surprised at the team this week.

There are a number of changes which were really not expected.

I would like to have seen Covell anounced in the side today because it was round 7 last year when he made his debut. Some tradition would have been great!

I felt that Robert Miles wasn't a good enough player to keep Covell out of first grade, yet somehow he was persisted with.

I was hoping Cov would be starting on the wing this weekend and was disappointed to see him lining up in the back row in PL.

He is worth 8 points a game to the tigers with his boot alone, you don't win games by not scoring points, I think we have figured that out the hard way. I don't think Hodgson is a capable enough kicker to be keeping Covell out of firsts either.

Luke's speed is the issue as I've posted b4 at the tigers info day Sheens said "I could beat luke over 100" and clearly stated that he saw him as a backrower..

I'm sure a reshuffle of sorts could see Luke possibly playing centre and Elford on the wing possibly.

I know Elford is a centre and all, but I think there has to be way tht Covell can be in the first grade side. (and not just on the bench)

I'm begining to think Sheens sees EVERY player in the club as a backrower ;-)

Covell's speed is not a fair dinkum issue. People talk about him as though he'd be struggling to accellerate past 'Sloth' Gibbs today 25 years after the big guy retired. It's all crap. He ain't super fast, but he's fast enough. Sure their might be faster guys over the hundred (BTW where is Joven Clarke now? ) - but this ain't the olympics. Wing play is so much more about positioning than speed. You get that right and you're pretty sweet. Luke doesn't get caught out of position very often. He also isn't prone to brain explosions.

He probably wouldn't have scored the long range try Grothe did last night, but neither would he have thrown the stupid pass to undo the good work. Instead he would have likely made a good 20-30m bust and found a speedy support like Hodgo or Fitz on the inside, or gone to ground and got a good play the ball so the attack can continue. On such is a winning attack based. If you're relying on 90m tries to get you out of jail every week then you don't have much of an attacking plan.
