American is now at Stud, shocking in NZ. there are a few staying sires coming through. Street cry,Reset and Savabeel. But yes our industry is geared to speed, 2 yr olds and a quick buck. But our most richest races are staying ones, some people just don't want to wait.

Shocking is an interesting one, tough stayer and his sire is Street Cry

You would hope he is at least a good horse, he just won the WFA championship of Australasia. Time will tell, he'd been unlucky all prep and i had a cracker on him in the guinea's and threw him into my tri after tossing up wether to rover IADD or Fiorente. Still spewing, the ride was a gem but i stand by my statement that all the top quality colts are going to stud far to early leaving our WFA ranks thin. Also the Cox Plate is being turned into just a run race for the Melbourne Cup, Honestly how many horses had been set for the race yesterday??? Good luck to the connections they won the lotto yesterday.

Won't be long before Zoustar and Shamus Award are shipped off to stud as well :(

If i owned a colt who got black type from winning G1 races and had the potential to earn who knows how many millions at stud then i'd get him in there quick smart and make no apologies for it. As great as it would be to have one that good running around on the track, you'd be a halfwit to risk such a valued commodity continuing to race it and risking it breaking it's leg and having to be put down every time it does.

Of course it can also do that in the paddock but there's a hell of a lot less chance that happening there as opposed to racing and they treat those valuable ones with kid gloves. While i agree it's not great when we see young colts go to stud before we (possibly) see their best, there'll be plenty of their progeny that will go on and continue to make sure there's always going to be a heap of great horses coming through.
