Yeah, nah. Imagine the intimidation that would go on if there was only one umpire.

As I've said before, umpiring is a mentally taxing job, concentrating for every single ball of a session will result in more errors. Having a mental break at square leg is good for umpiring.

Teams can put a player at square leg then they wish, the umpire just stands further back.

The upcoming Australian tour of Sri Lanka will be televised on Channel 7...the first time since the 1997 tour of South Africa that a non-Ashes test series will have live FTA coverage in Australia:

Both the tests and ODIs start at 3:30pm AEDST (according to the cricket.com.au website)

This is quite odd for mine (not that I’m complaining)

ch7 brains trust must think they can make some coin on the back of the huge home summer test series , with the SL test series not far away and in prime time

Striking while the iron is hot . God luv em.
Too bad back to normality when the 3 test WI series rolls around..

those spoilt brats are mainly all from rich parents and private schools, they probably get that at home all the time

such a gap in class over there
Reminds me of an Indian classmate (from Kolkata) I had back in high school during the early 2000s.

I will never forget his parents always followed him around everywhere, drove him everywhere (even if it was a short distance)...pampered, over-protected, he never struggled to succeed in life (always had his parents to fall back on, as they were well off financially)

Although this upbringing definitely reflected in his personality, his level of brattishness was nowhere near as bad as his younger sister. Dear oh dear oh dear...even back then, her behaviour was on par with Kohli's antics during the MCG/SCG tests. No accountability whatsoever, went around with this smug arrogant demeanour in public, and always played the victim whenever things didn't go her way.

Yes, you're 100% correct.

What may appear to be a nothing series (in the context of the fact that the result has no bearing on the WTC Final qualification, let alone that Sri Lanka aren't a huge drawcard in Australia) is nothing more than Ch7 striking while the iron is hot, on the back of large crowds and TV ratings during the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy. As I said, first time since 1997 that a non-Ashes overseas test series will have live FTA coverage in Australia. A shame the WTC Final in June is stuck behind a pay wall (Amazon Prime), as Ch7 broadcasted the last WTC Final in 2023.

What's even more interesting is that the two ODIs after the test series are day games, considering that all ODIs during the ICC Champions Trophy that directly follows the Sri Lankan tour are day/nighters. Day ODIs in the subcontinent are very rare these days due to broadcasters wanting day/nighters to maximise tv ratings.

However, the good news for those on the east coast of Australia is that because those two ODIs are day games, they will finish in prime time (around 11pm AEDST)

guessing that the timing of Jan/Feb and no football might be a factor
