Watched first ten minutes.

Grandpa Simpson esque.

I've always found it weird they use their parents names.

And that they weren’t hounded out of cricket for underarm bowling. Helluva day that.

It was pretty much a replay of Cricket in the 70s, not sure if anyone has watched the ABC Docco years ago which was a pretty good one, and also his interview on Fox Cricket.

Nothing new, but of course Ch 9 try to make out there were so many things we didnt know about.

We knew about his issues with Bradman, how World Series cricket started and why he and Botham dont talk.

The only reason I started watching it as I thought the Bill Lawry one was on.

Bit of international cricket for the kiwis coming up in the summer - covid pending

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/...ies-pakistan-australia-bangladesh-home-season

New Zealand are set for a full programme of international cricket during their summer with men's tours by West Indies, Pakistan, Australia and Bangladesh while a visit by the Australia Women's team is also in the early stages of planning for the gap created by the postponed ODI World Cup in February.

NZC are currently working with the government on the biosecurity measures that will need to be in place for the touring teams with visitors to the country currently required to isolate for 14 days on arrival.

David White, the NZC CEO, said they are looking at a model similar to that used by the ECB during their ongoing season, which was the first international cricket to resume amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

"We are making tremendous progress. I was just on the phone to the West Indies, they're confirmed, Pakistan is confirmed, Australia and Bangladesh... so 37 days of international cricket," White told reporters in Auckland.

"The White Ferns will tour Australia in September and then the Australia Women's team will tour New Zealand in February. We are just working through the content but probably five ODIs and three T20Is.

"We'll just be held up for a week or two while we work with the government agencies on the managed isolation but they've been extremely supportive."

Under the current Future Tours programme, West Indies and Pakistan were down to visit for Tests and T20Is with Bangladesh slated for ODIs and T20Is and then Australia for T20Is, although the final structure of the seasons remains to be confirmed given the postponement of the Men's T20 World Cup. The Tests against West Indies and Pakistan are part of the World Test Championship.

The last time the men's team was in action was in the behind-closed-doors ODI against Australia at the SCG in mid-March shortly before that tour was called off with New Zealand needing to get home before the borders were closed.

The women's team are set to be the first back on the field with their trip to Australia in late September that includes three T20Is and three ODIs.

The Women's ODI World Cup, which was due to be staged in February and March next year, was postponed by 12 months earlier this week when it was decided that there would not be sufficient time for teams to qualify and prepare for the tournament.

New Zealand has been one of the most successful countries in combatting Covid-19 and recently marked 100 days without community transmission, but things have changed a little bit since then. On Tuesday, local media said four fresh cases of community transmission had been reported in the country, and Auckland would move to Alert Level 3 from Wednesday, with the rest of the country moving to Alert Level 2*.

White was speaking as NZC confirmed a new deal for radio coverage of cricket in New Zealand with MediaWorks Radio. Earlier this year, previous rights holders NZME confirmed they would not be extending their broadcast deal with commentary on Radio Sport, a station which has now been taken off the air.

Australia and NZ need to hastily arrange a bi-lateral 6 test summer - 3 in Oz, 3 in NZ.

We can still play Afghanistan too.

The Bill Lawry episode was very good, especially the old clippings from newspapers and magazines during the early years of his career.

Now that you mentioned Chappelli, something you're gonna love:

Footage of Chappelli and Botham in the commentary box together during the 1998/99 Ashes series....just as Steve Waugh scored a fifty! ROFL! That definitely had Chappelli on the edge of his seat:

I never knew they were both in the commentary for the series, I was led to believe they avoided being in the box together, just like the 99 World Cup, so that video sums up the tension between the two in that game. Ian refuses to acknowledge comments from Botham. That was interesting to watch, particularly when S Waugh got his 50 and went on to make a ton.

Cheers for that.

Botham was the overseas/international commentator for Ch9 that summer, which was convenient for Ch9 since Botham was already in Australia commentating for Sky Sports UK (hence Ch9 didn't have to fork out all the travel costs to bring Botham out to Australia).

There was an infamous episode on A Current Affair (then hosted by either Ray Martin or Mike Munro) around that time where Ch9 tried to cash in on the Chappelli-Botham feud, had them both on the show together and the dialogue went as follows:

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/22486772/ian-chappell-ian-botham-thirty-year-feud

Chappell recounts the story of when the two were on a current affairs programme in the 1990s and the host turned to Botham and asked whether the two would have a drink at the end of the day. "Yea," replied Botham. "That's cricket. You sit down and have a beer or a wine." The host then turned to Chappell. "And you?" "No," he said. "I can find plenty of decent people to have a drink with ... I won't be drinking with him."

LOL! Very awkward.

It seems like Botham doesn't want to acknowledge the fued, as much as Chappelli does. Botham doesn't really want to go it into it much when asked recently, whereas Chappell will go into details of what happened and said he wont talk to him unless he receives an apology for all the stories in the newspaper.

It certainly wont be resolved before one of them is dead.

I do know there were paper wars during Ashes contests over the years, which is hardly a surprise.

I don't know if there was one during the 92 World Cup, I recall in the lead up to the final Chappell predicting Pakistan to win because of Imran's captaincy and England are nervous. He might've mentioned Botham's blow up at the Queen impersonator.

Chappell didn't hold back on his knighthood lol.

Although these days it seems theyre handed out to any English cricketer. God help us if there's Sir Stuart Broad and Sir Ben Stokes.

In recent years, Alastair Cook, Andrew Strauss and Geoff Boycott have received knighthoods.

Of the current playing group, I predict James Anderson will be the next one to receive a knighthood after he retires within the next 1-2 years, given he's England's highest wicket-taker in test cricket and is only a few tests away from overtaking Cook as England's most capped test player. Of all the bowlers currently going around in international cricket, Stuart Broad is the only one who could overtake Anderson in either the most wickets or most test caps for England department and has got age on his side, being 4 years younger than Anderson.
