I wonder what this says about the amount of coin spare parts players are getting in the NRL. When you have players on $50 000 there must be a temptation to do these sorts of things.

$50k is not enough cash. Yes you can live on it but the players on this low level of coin still are held up to be role models etc. Nowhere near enough when that is considered IMO.

Bulldogs front-rower Ryan Tandy has been arrested for allegedy providing false evidence.
Detectives from the State Crime Command's Racing and Casino Investigation Unit are finalising their investigation into suspicious betting activity on Canterbury's round-24 NRL match against North Queensland last year, an inquiry that has this month used the powers of the NSW Crime Commission.
Tandy was arrested for allegedly giving false evidence to a law-enforcement agency.

His role in the match has been a centre of focus since betting agencies reported suspicious punting trends on the unusual novelty option of the Cowboys to open the scoring with a penalty goal.
The alleged sting was ultimately unsuccessful: the Cowboys declined a chance to kick an easy goal after two minutes and instead scored a try.
Tandy, who was penalised in front of the posts for lying on Cowboys half Grant Rovelli, strongly denied giving it away intentionally in an interview with the Herald published on August 28.
More than 80 people were interviewed as part of the police investigation. It is unknown at this point whether any other arrests have been made.
Police said in a statement that detectives had arrested a man for allegedly providing false evidence. He was then taken to City Central police station.
Charges are expected to be laid, the statement said.
"Police are treating this investigation seriously,'' said Arthur Katsogiannis, the Firearms and Organised Crime Squad Commander.
''It's not a game, this is real life, and police will continue with their investigations in an endeavour to uncover the truth and ensure justice is done.
"Detectives will continue to use every available resource to uncover the truth and complete their investigation. As such, police work jointly with other law-enforcement agencies to ensure that investigations are conducted thoroughly.
"In order for investigations to proceed, it is important for anyone with information to co-operate with police.
"If anyone has been involved with, or has information about criminal activity regarding betting allegations, we urge them to come forward and assist police while they still have the opportunity."
Police said the arrest just before noon followed three search warrants executed yesterday at a unit in Bronte, a home in Strathfield and a home at Punchbowl, where police located and seized relevant documentation and mobile phones.
NRL chief executive David Gallop said: "We have always believed, following our initial inquiries, that the police were the appropriate people to further investigate concerns and we appreciate the resources they have invested into doing so.
"It remains a police matter and any comment on the investigations as they continue should be through the police until we are advised otherwise," Mr Gallop said.

The useful idiots in the AFL media must be breathing a sigh of relief. Anything to take the heat off St Kiddyfiddla and their players binging on prescription drugs!

The charge Tandy is facing carries a 5 year jail term. Fox sports news reports

The bulldogs would be compelled to suspend him until the court date

The Police have stressed that the charges do not relate to conduct in or around the game but to the provision of information to a NSW Crime Commission hearing.

It's pretty common for the NSW CC when they can't prove the criminal conspiracy to hit them with a perjury charge as a next result. Put a bit of intimidation on them.

If they can't prove he falsified testimony - which as most people can tell you, is hard to do - then it'll get dropped.

Get a load of Phil Rothfield...claimed this is "the worst offseason imaginable" and the only thing keeping the NRL off the front pages is Cyclone Yasi.

Poor bastard must have been miserable with nothing but positive news to report for the last 3 months.

You'd be a pessimist too if you followed Scumulla
