Who thinks it will be announced before the weekends game?

I think it is a distinct possibility and have figured it into my tip in the margin thread.

However, i wonder whether from the Sharkies point of view, if there is no announcement either this week or next, if it's worth telling Kade that our offer will be off the table in x amount of time.

Surely if he goes elsewhere then the club needs to be proactive and plan for his departure.

It seems as though we already tried to push him into a position and he stepped out at the last minute, if there is any hesitation from the Knights / Bennet / Tinkler in regards to signing Kade could it be exploited?

Either way, i think for most sharks fans we just want the situation resolved and to know whether he will or won't be with us officially the longer it drags out the more depressing it is.

meh.......he is replacable..not like he is a gal or ET or Davo.

If his is still fugging the club around, take it off the table ...save the dosh for a bloke who can score points.

Kade set up all your points on the weekend. i'm not trying to stir you up, just stating the facts.

i have no idea what effect the Bennett signing is going to have on this one. i would say it was a done deal when we were able to throw whatever we liked at Kade, but Bennett won't pay the overs we wanted to (under the cap that is, and im not going to speculate on whether we intend to break it or not... as you lot have clearly already made up your mind), i'm sure.

I'll go on the record to say that i believe that most clubs that can afford to breach the salary cap will.

But do you personally believe that a man like Tinkler wouldn't be looking at getting an advantage any way he saw fit?

all i can tell you is what Ken Edwards and Troy Palmer assured me in person - that risking a cap breach is not in the best interests of Tinkler Sports Group, and they are very disinterested in the PR nightmare that would ensue. they went on to say they are going to wring every last cent out of it, and that they were unimpressed to the point of comedy about how our current (previous) administration managed the salary cap. this was during the period of due diligence, when TSG had all the figures.

i have my suspicions about the state and exploitability of the salary cap in its current form, for sure. the cap is simply broken... and i don't doubt that most clubs are jumping through all sorts of loopholes. whether they are breaking the rules or circumventing them legally is anyones guess, really... but it's clearly not working for the purpose it was put in place.

so, to answer your question in a simple way - i don't know for sure which clubs would be breaching the cap, and to what extent... but i didn't want to waste my time pushing sh*t uphill in here discussing it, really, as there seems to be a solid consensus on the subject here that i don't necessarily agree with 100%. i'm not a man of absolutes, i often find myself in the grey area between. i hope my club doesn't intentionally rort the cap, but i'm not naive enough to say it isn't happening, or won't happen, i'm just going to trust the word of the people i have spoken to about it and cross my fingers.

The thing you will try and bend I would say is what you pay a guy under the cap. Souths tried to put Inglis under the cap for something like 150k or so but the NRL somehow has a set price on what you have to pay a player given their standing in the game(or something), hence Champion had to go.

I wonder how much Justin Poore takes up under the cap at Parra... Gee we dodged a bullet there! I am hopeful Kade will stay but I just do not see it. Tinkler has pointed out him and Idris as guys he wants. He missed Idris(did Bennett say no?) and I doubt he wants to miss Kade. Realistically if they only sign Boyd they have failed in the market and I doubt Tinkler wants people to think that.

Surely we must sign Douglass up ASAP. Once/if he makes SOO his price will rise & they will come from everywhere to have a crack at him!

Exactly! He has delivered ever since he made his debut and we know exactly what we're getting.

We can recover from losing Snowy, but losing Snowy AND Douglas and we'd be proper f**ked.

I done blame mannah for going back to parra...our club is a f**kin joke on and off the field...and personally for mannah getting not even 5 minutes on the weekend is f**king insult if you ask me.

I also wonder what the go with vave is? match fitness possibly? the bloke use to carry blokes everytime he ran the ball and could also sniff out a try

yeah mate, you are probably right. i'd say the last blokes were pretty honest with the "under the cap, guarenteed" income due to hard earned, but still limited third party resources. TSG will likely be able to push it to whatever limit with practically every contract. all speculation, of course... i don't know what our books are/were like.

i wouldn't be surprised if Bennett asked us to pull our offer on Idris. once again, just speculation, but the timing was interesting, wasn't it? if that were the case... then you would have to think that Bennett hasn't instructed Tinkler to back off on Snowden. no surprise there, Snowden is a much more valuable asset to a football team, or at least to our particular football team.

Boyd is an interesting one, and every Knights fan is wondering what happens if Boyd follows Bennett. i personally don't think that is a given just yet, but you'd have to think there is an even money chance at worst. obviously i wouldn't turn him down, he's an absolute phenom. it will cost us someone that we felt was a part of our long term spine, though. up until now, we were very optimistic that 1. Gidley 6. Henry 7. Mullen 9. De Gois was our absolute way forward. now what? De Gois is currently off contract and Gidley can play hooker... but perhaps Bennett rates Gidley a half? where does that leave Henry? would Bennett do something completely off the wall and move Mullen to centre (where i think he would absolutely excel, but would be a waste of his talents)? honestly, we just don't know.

anyway, didn't mean to bring all this Knights talk into here... but you got me on a roll. at the end of the day, i am obviously still hoping Snowy comes home to Newcastle... but perhaps there might be some silver lining to this Tinkler/Bennett business for you blokes? there might be a handy castoff or two that the Sharks could have a crack at if Boyd follows Bennett.

how many comapnies does tinkler have? How many sub contractor?
How many of those companies can employ family members of contracted knights players?
Answer = all of them.
At least Rusty uses OS companies for payments, which minimises his potential.
With the knights now, there is no such thing as a salary cap.

they still have to have them on the books for something, mate. Souths weren't able to sign Inglis for $150k under the cap... which forced Champion out. i do understand your point, though. money talks, especially in these quantities and with such a diverse portfolio growing...

out of interest, what do you blokes think the answer is? as i see it, total privitisation across all nrl clubs seems to be an inevitability... and i've said it for a long time, before i even knew who Nathan Tinkler was. we've been living on peanuts forever, it has always seemed a forgone conclusion to me. as romantic as the community owned model is, it hasn't been proven to compete against big business in many cases.

points based cap of 15000 points to each club & players points are out of 100.
20 points = rookie
100 points = consistent Internation/origin player
75 points = +60 first grade games etc.

then clubs can pay whatever they want to anybody. As long as they start the year under the points cap.
