Cronulla Sharks slam NRL over poor handling of women’s com

New article on the NRL website re this, I think the Sharks & Bunnies have no chance of ever getting in.

that is biggest slap in the face of both clubs.

Sharks & Rabbits need to work together on this, maybe a demo game between both in USA through Rusty & Dean Treister connections in USA

So effectively no point in bidding at all either this year or next as the Nrl has preconceived ideas about which "geographical areas" they wish to cater to. As I thought....the Nrl contracted players were in on the process hence the only Shark to speak up was Alana Ferguson who is recently retired. Standard Nrl Clusterfaarrkk.

This Greenberg has made it clear that if a team were to move he'd move the Sharks without hesitation. Especially now it seems he has the Rooters and merge in his pocket. I don't understand how the Dragons will afford it

I don't know a great deal about this situation, but this seems like an absolutely ludicrous decision.

Sharks have been at the forefront of developing the women's game. Surely they should be a part of the inaugural comp.

And Surely the NRL could give better feedback than just the geographic reason. Sounds like a blow off.

Looks like the NRL are going to give Souths and Cronulla an even bigger slap in the face by making it a 4 team competition next year as well.

How does the NRL end up with people like Greenberg, Beattie that John Grant before him, its as if, they select the people who can turn a billion dollars into a million dollars.

The AFL seems to just move along with very little issues or those issue dont go outside of VIC.

The womens comp another example there comp runs seperate to mens beginning of season, now the NRL could have done the same play after the GF have womens so it dosent clash with AFL at start of season, even if they wanted to play the first game of season on GF day, and have a 6 team comp and go from there, it cant be that hard really

If they think for a second that fans will support another club they have rocks in their head. Especially since they have snubbed the two hardest working clubs in regards to growth in the womens game, and placed each clubs biggest rival in instead of them.

Hahaha that kills the geographical argument. As if Sharks fans are going to support their geographic neighbours the Dragqueens. Souths fans support Roosters? It will be a cold day in hell if that happens. Especially while St Merge still have an NRL Men’s team

I was surmising.
I hope the Sharks and Rabbits boards get together and make a joint competition, then invite teams from over Sydney to join. I definitely would go to those games.

A women's demo game in the USA. Wouldn't even recoup the airfares. Rusty can't get 20k to Rabbits games in Sydney.

Playing women's games before NRL games doesn't work for all. I would rather watch the 20s.

It's an Aussie PC thing. Matilda's getting talked up and Samantha Kerr. No one in Europe, Africa or South America would know her.
AFLW GF was free entry. Women's Rugby 7s a 2 country sport. Women's cricket not bad but boundaries are about 10m shorter.

Saw Women's match last year at Sharks. Played the Dragons. Couldn't even field full sides. Bit of a problem when tackling not the best.
Getting the girls playing and watching NRL is great but don't pretend it will ever draw a paying crowd.

The only issue is Sharks not in the comp when they should be.

Women tennis players get same prize money for no apparent reason.

Yes, OK, the US thing is weird.

But I’m just as happy watching the women play prior to an NRL game as the under 20s. I’ve also got 3 girls and it is a draw for them to come along as well.

I genuinely think women’s league is a good product. It won’t ever be anywhere near as big a draw as the NRL but so what? Bazza had significant corporate sponsorship lined up and it has the potential to more than hold its own and contribute significantly to the Sharks brand over time.
