AFL has had a free run in Melbourne for a century or more, no RL opposition

RU opposition has not been an issue for many many decades in Sydney.

and really very little else to do (no offence to Melbournites).

ahh the old chestnut. This is rubbish you realise?

Sydney is full of hundreds of different cultures

WTF? Do you think other cultures not reside in Melbourne?

and with a city of 4 million and easily the biggest metropolitan area in Australia, plenty of things to do with plenty of places to do them.

Sydney is not THAT far ahead of us and we are growing at a much faster rate.

The point being the world revolves around AFL down there, it doesn't revolve around RL up here.

Equally untrue.

Many millions of people do not attend or watch an AFL game each weekend.

Aussie Rules just happens to be a spectator sport primarily, sh*thouse (even for fans) to watch on tv. Other games, in particular RL are equally as enjoyable to watch on tv as they are at the ground. That's all it is.

One thing I did notice, usually home or away the tigers fan make up fifty percent or more of the spectators and in most cases its more like sixty five percent, last sunday the doggies fans out numbered the tigers fans by a fair margin.
