Amazing how good teams at the top of the table get big crowds and battlers struggling at the bottom don't go so well. Astonishes me. Just unbelievable really.

& that is because gallop undersold our game .
Every constraint due to lack of $$$ can be laid at the feet of Gallop.

No, he was constrained because of the board that he was serving. Is there anyone who really believes that a 50% News dominated board gave Gallop a free and unconstrained hand when it came to negotiating broadcasting rights? If so, I have a little something called the Gateway Bridge I am selling. Feel free to PM me an offer.

13240 in Townsville

Outstanding per capita turnout from the Townsville crowd! 6% of the entire population of Townsville turned out to a single rugby league game, compared to only 1.5% of the entire population of Sydney that has showed up to 3 games. Per capita Townsville clearly is the rugby league capital of Australia. Townsville is rugby league!!

Before the Bolt brigade tries to respond, yes, I am being satirical in order to demonstrate how brainless the "per capita" argument is.

Too many non Sydney teams. If there was less of these rubbish plastic teams there'd be more rivalry games and better crowds.

Two good crowds and you blokes are ready to return to the NSWRL.

You know this thread isn't for talking sense Newman.

Although thought the tigers v broncos game would have got a bit more (plenty of broncos support out here)

Unless there are 60k at Centrebet on Monday expect the DT to run "code in crisis in Western Sydney"
Theres a very good chance this is the first season in history all 4 western sydney teams miss the finals. They could easily all be bottom 4 teams. That is a crisis.

Nevermind, I just remembered Wests v Penrith got 9k. But I would love a conference system.

In general cowboys crowds are incredibly impressive given the population they draw from. Per capita crowds aren't perfect but it isn't a useless metric either.

When was the last time the first three games of a round got 20k+, let alone sold out?

Congrats to the Roosters, Dragons, Storm, Warriors, Sea Eagles and Souffs supporters.

I totally reject the Cowboys excuse. They wanted a team. They got a team. They and noone else can use population as an excuse. If you put a team somewhere, whether it be New York City or Broken Hill, you do it because you expect it to have NRL standard support.

Nq's all time avg is 5000 a game more than souths :sarcasm:

This. The last TV rights he didn't even open it up to bidding. Just asked 9 to pay whatever they wanted for it.

IN other words, it wasn't a bid/auction. He simply allowed Ch9 to extend their rights without any competition.

Same thing happened with the radio rights in 2009, where Graeme Hughes from 2SM said that he wasn't even approached by Gallop

The following teams have all-time averages lower than the Cowboys. BunniesMan rejects their existence.

Wests Tigers, St George-Illawarra, NZ Warriors, Bulldogs, Eels, Manly, Melbourne, Souths, Roosters, Canberra, Penrith and Cronulla.

So a BunniesMan NRL would look like this:

Broncos, Titans, Newcastle.

BunniesMan, would you have two points for the bye? Shouldn't be too hard to draft the draw!

And I ask again: what do you think the board of directors instructed him to do?

I think the tigers need to have good look at where they are going with their stadia strategy as the status quo is not great. Campbelltown has dished up 2 below average crowds, yet it by rights should be the growth area for the club. Maybe the tigers more than anyone would beneift from a single purpose built stadium in WS??

Broncos v souths should get 40k next week

I never said it was an excuse i said their crowds have been impressive considering their population and i stand by that. Certainly they have been better than souths whilst they have been in the comp. The cowboys overall have been pretty much the worst team since their admission. They have a small population base that have to travel long distances. They also get pretty much no away fans due to their location.

Despite that they have multiple years averaging 20K+ and overall have managed to average something 17K overall since they entered the league. Now i've defended souths crowds and memberships in the past but you've got to be a deadsh*t moron and a hypocrite to insult their crowds.

Regardless i disagree with your logic because if we followed it through we would end up with teams only in the capital cities (like the AFL). I like that we can have teams in slightly smaller areas. That's not to say that we should excuse them if their crowds are really poor but you can't expect every team to reach the same size and no comp in the world works like that basically.

Not to mention the titans average is dropping fast. So they're behind Newcastle (with 2 premierships in that period) and the Broncos (need i say anymore?).

Cowboys crowds frankly have been amazing since their introduction.

i also agree that the Tigers may have to rethink their stadium usage for next year onwards. Their crowds at Campbelltown this year have been below expectations.
