We had a terrible crowd tonight no disputing that however the NRL has got to be the dumbest sport organisation in the world or they just dont care about crowds.

The Swans have a day time game at the modern SCG while the NRL puts a game on at the old and tired SFS minus origin players at 730pm,2 and a half hrs after the swans finish..fans of both sports are going to go to the day game however no one is going to go to both as that means starting at the SCG at 2 then leaving at 5 and having a 2 and a half hr wait till the Roosters game, no one with a family could do that or afford that. the NRL knows the AFL draw in advance so why put this game on at this time?

I could not agree more about how bad the crowd was yet the NRL need to be smarter. Fans want day games yet the Roosters have not had one arvo home game all year. Putting this game on at this time was a major mistake.

Was going to come on here and make a point about the 9k crowd, but you pretty much summed it up there sir.

If the game was scheduled for tomorrow afternoon (which would've been the smart thing) it could've easily become an 18-20k game imo.

The coaches and players want stand alone origin. I beleive the fans would accept it but the nrl seeing dollar signs from the prolonged origin period is not nudging.

I think our biggest problem is too many games watering down the product. Stand alone origin and reduce the schedule to 22 games per club with no byes sounds reasonable to me. It would give less games to sell initially with 16 teams but expanding to 18 will give more (18 x 11 home games)
Stand alone origin would not cost anybody any money. TV would get better ratings if more games had their stars playing.
13.8k for Penrith is an outstanding result. More than double last year's same fixture - 6,271.

No it is not an outstanding result. How about allowing for weather AND form. They got 6k in pouring rain as a non top 8 team. Now they're in the race for the minor premiership and it wasn't raining. In a small suburban stadium. The joint should be packed every week.

Can't blame solely nine for this, it is all parties involved. The nrl clearly put crowds second and the networks want night games.

NRL is targetting 20k by 2017. Im surprised they said 2017, 2018 would give em an extra year as well as an opportunity to get power back from broadcasters and put up a better schedule.

what could the NRL do to improve crowds right now? Keep in mind they cant move the times for games as this is all decided by Nine/Fox.

i think its more about it being very hard (perhaps impossible) to change broadcast deals. A 1.2 billion deal for 5 years is probably hundreds and hundreds of pages long, and without drawing up an entirely new contract and negotiating for at least a year, it wouldnt be feasible to make such drastic changes to the schedule.

When I complain about origin scheduling it's to attack the last tv rights deal when we knew about all these problems and to explain what we need in the next deal. I don't expect anything to change during this deal.

Honestly Easts have less fans then the sharks
Imo considering their success I would rank the fan bases of the shitter sides as follows

Smallest to largest

Manly
Easts
Sharks
Penrith

Lol' so in the very heartland of the game you want us to schedule around the afl? They must laugh their socks off at the state of some crowds in the NRL

Exactly same time slot in Perth last week drew 20k, the ko time isn't the issue. The stadium isn't the issue.

Penrith got potential to get 03/04 crowds once more in the upcoming years with there current form. Easts and manly potential has been shown for a while and it be downhill the moment they decline. In particular manly for all there success could become canberra 2.0 in sub 10k crowds the moment there not in title contention.

Poor crowd but a Saturday night, SOO affected game against last place is never a high drawer in anyone's books.

Sub 10k is disappointing but some of the responses have been lol-worthy.

We're not the first & wont be the last Sydney club to get a sub 10k crowd during SOO, our fans will be there when it matters most;

Rd 19 Vs Panthers
Rd 25 Vs Storm
Rd 25 Vs Rabbtiohs

Unfortunately up until now all our big games have been affected by rain outside of the WCC so we're an easy target. But I can still see us easily averaging 16-17k for the season which would be a pass mark given the circumstances.

The hill must have a lot of capacity at Penrith as I don't see another 7k fitting in that ground if tonight was 13k odd as reported.

That is a disgrace of a crowd for us at allianz. No excuse for it to be that small.

To be honest, given your fanbase probably also likes AFL and/or Rugby Union, and you had the Swans and Wallabies playing tonight, it was one that people said I will just catch it on the TV given it looked to be an easy win.

LOL. If they like fumbleball so much, they'd have just walked across the road after the Swans game.

Perth gets 1 game a year. If it didn't sell out there would be an issue.

How many games a year in Sydney?

So you expect people to sit at the afl from 2pm then when it finishes have a 2 and a half hour wait until the Roosters kickoff. Not as simple as just heading across the road. Most people especially casuals don't have the time money or patience to do that

100% correct. NRL really suffers during origin, it seemed like a nothing game and even the players struggled to get up for it. People saying the swans playing earlier made no difference have no idea, driver ave and all carparks were closed till 630pm due to traffic of that game. It was a nightmare to get to the game, it was terrible scheduling.

Crud weather in Sydney today.

Shame a good crowd in prospect will be wasted.

Should have played the Roosters game today. No loss crowd-wise.
