Crowds to rise in 2007?

I think it will be a joke if they count that as being 6 x 75,000 crowds. it should be divided by 3 for each day, therefore being 25,000 each, which is still massive, especially for the likes of Wire/Salford, Quins/Cats, Giants/Wakey. I would even go one further and call it unethical.
If 76,000 watch each game ... it means a 76,000 attendance for each game.

bullsh*tt! Do 83,000 watch the jersey flegg and all the other matches before the NRL grand final!? and plus they're really only paying for one match

83,000 don't pay to watch the jersey flegg..

IN cardiff over 70,000 will buy tickets specifically to watch SL games.

If over 70,000 are there watching each game... that's 70,000 people watching each game..

The stadium, if it sells out will not be full at any point. Some fans who have a match at 2 will watch that and leave, while those whose team start at 6 will show up just for that match. I'm not saying all will, i'm saying some will. It's just like the farce last year with the Quins double header, reported as a 12,000 crowd when really there were about 4000 there

HKR already play FC 3 times away, not likely to want to make it 4 out of 4 just too get a few quid!

I still don't believe those figures. If they are true then why do the Quins struggle for support?

Are you really this stupid? "The South" is, well, quite large you know. It may be difficult for you to understand, I appreciate that, but you would be well served by leaving your hometown occasionally.

The question being why do Quins get smaller crowds if 50% of Sky viewers are classed as from "the South"?

This brings up the difference between attending live regularly in support of one team and watching the two games of the round in the comfort of the lounge room. (Presumably the RFL figures quoted are for home subscribers, not counting pubs etc.)

I'd say that history thus far proves that this active support has been hard to get in London or "down south", compared to the history and habits of northern crowds. Throw Sky into the equation and there's less incentive for people who watch but have never followed live to get out and do so.

That's part of the battle for smaller clubs like Quins to become any bigger in live support, and thereby merchandise, turnover, salary cap, etc. Getting some Sky money for televised games would help offset a smaller live crowd, but then also serve to reduce incentive to be part of a live crowd in those areas that haven't grown their live club support above a regular 5,000 yet.

Bit of a vicious cycle, north or south, new or old for the smaller and poorer clubs. Don't know if the move to franchises will address this in any way?

And are you that stupid that you've just argued against yourself? Yes the south is "quite large" , London has about 12 million people and still the Quins struggle to break 5,000 average attendances.A figure which equate to 0.04%of the population in London alone.Take into account the rest of the south and you're talking "quite a few" people.I think you would be best served leaving your one horse country town and try and visit the big cities of Tamworth, or is it Dubbo for you , occasionally.

People might be RL fans, but not Quins fans.I don't mind watching the cricket on telly, doesn't mean I want to go and watch Yorkshire CCC every week though...

The viewing figures are spread across "the south". Are you seriously suggesting that people are happy to travel 50 or 100 miles to watch a team they may have no affinity with?

Many of those oh-so-keen and loyal fans in so called "heartlands" whinge about travelling to a neighbouring county to watch the game. A trip from, say, Bristol to London is slightly more of an effort.

The viewers have an interest in the game, as they are watching it on TV. That's not to say they have a vested interest in supporting Quins RL. They might be Saints fans, or support Wigan for example. There's no reason to assume they are Quins fans. Given the choice of watching the game on TV or faffing around across London, I'd take the TV option if I were not a Quins/Broncos fan.

A figure which equate to 0.04%of the population in London alone.

What proportion of the Melbourne population watch the Storm at the ground? That does not stop them tuning in in big numbers for glamour games on TV. It's fundamentally incorrect to assume viewing figures are wrong if they do not reflect the number in the ground. Quins don't set the world on fire in terms of bums on seats, but to question the viewing figures in the entire South as a result is plain daft.

Take into account the rest of the south and you're talking "quite a few" people.I think you would be best served leaving your one horse country town and try and visit the big cities of Tamworth, or is it Dubbo for you , occasionally.

Crusaders/Broncos/Quins have been a nomadic team for years. They've had precious little opportunity to build any identity or local support. To somehow assume the entire South, or a reasonable proportion of them, will turn up at their home games is plain stupid. Why would someone from Reading, for example, automatically support the Quins? Why not Saints, Leeds, Wigan or Hull?

They're watching on TV in decent numbers despite most areas of the South having precious little local RL. They don't necessarily have an innate support for the Quins, they just like to watch RL.

Assuming the entire south would rally round the Quins is nonsensical. There are people in Scotland who watch the SL; it doesn't mean they'll be there at the KC stadium, for example.
