crusaders may play home game in melbourne!

read in the sunday news that the crusaders board have discussed moving their home game against the reds (jade stadium is unavailable due to cricket test) to melbourne. malbrough and nelson bays have put in bids for the game but the crusaders are looking at melbourne.

i thought the canes not playing at new plymouth next year was bad enough but this takes the cake.

this is absoulely disgusting does everything have to be about money. the games in nelson in the past have been sellouts.

i guess they will change their mine when nelson bays go you can rico gear in exchange for the game.

I have no problems with it. Growth of the game. Its not as if they are going to do it each year for the next 10 years. Its a one off event.

Timbo,

The match would attract a huge crowd. The Wallabies have drawn several sell out crowds and RWC matches in melbourne were well patronised at substantial entry charges. Melbourne is well aquainted with Rugby and would relish a super 12 match.
Please check your facts before shooting off your mouth.

Telstra Dome:

Capacity 52,000

Wallabies vs. Scotland (This Year-Only Game Of Top Level Rugby In Melbourne). Crowd 38,222.
France vs. Ireland (Rugby World Cup Quater Final). Crowd 33,134.
New Zealand vs. South Africa (Rugby World Cup Quater Final). Crowd 40,734. (Crowd figures from austadiums.com)

I'd say those were three fairly large events. Yet they could not sell out. How are two foreign teams meant to do it? Play the game at Olympic Park  ?

Next time you shoot your mouth off it might be nice to check your facts.

Play at Telstra Dome because the fans comforts and needs are more important than capacity .
Bulldogs only got 11,000 at Testra Stadium against the Cowboys this year so it really doesn't matter how many turn up .

Honestly are you serious? It doesn't matter how many turn up? You must be joking.

It wouldn't sell out in Melbourne. Many Super 12 games in Rugby union cities in Oz don't sell out.

The story is a manufactured argument to keep S12 in the news........and........It has kept it in the news...

What a load of crap...... There is no need to keep it in the news... The Crusaders where just testing the waters to see if they could get away with it and make a bit if cash... they couldn't

It won't be played there. Confirmed last night that it will either be in Nelson or Blenheim now.

Do you really think they are that hard up for cash and/or out of touch with their fans?

Of course there is a need to keep it in the news.... this is what all sports aim for.. it good marketing.

Melbourne also happen to be where a possible S14 team may be located. This sort of stuff raises awareness.
