Wow, what a result for Celtic Crusaders against a near full strength Quins team in last nights trial game.

Quins won't be here this time next season. They haven't done anything of note in Super League and although their development of Londoners through to the first team squad is admirable, it doesn't help their finances. On the looks of this, they will finish bottom with record low crowds.

Massive call FG. I think Quins will still be around.

Well done to Celtic. With the additions to their squad it looks like they will be thereabouts this season.

Why was there so many subs?

Usually in trial games, they like to give as many players a run as possible, I think they play with expanded playing squads in NRL trials, too.

One of the reasons I never bother to watch or read too much into trial games. They are a necessary evil. Nothing more nothing less.

good crowd:sarcasm: superleague standard
Give up, they are an NL1 side and were playing in a pre-season friendly against a club that will have brought little if any travelling support. Many teams are lucky to get half their average for a pre-season game, I don't think it was a bad effort for Celtic.

mate with all due repect they have no where near figures of your leigh, widnes, salford , whitehaven sure they are looked at as one of those expansion teams but this is a good crowd for them they only averaged around 500 last year superleague is out of the question.

Celtic averaged 600 less than Leigh last season, and that was a division below without the travelling support from the likes of Cas and Widnes. Celtic averaged over 1000 last year in only thier second year of existance. I don't know where you've got the figure of 500 from.

compare this to the over 5,000 figure that Widnes got on sunday for a pre-season trial game then Celtic need to do alot of work.

How many years have Widnes been around compared to Celtic? Widnes were playing Wigan who are a local rival and will have brought a large amount of travelling support, Widnes only averaged around 3,000 last year in National League One and had been in Super League for several years previously. I honestly cannot believe that some National League fans are so hostile and bitter towards Celtic Crusaders.

i think theres only 1 person whos bitter here my little friend! are you saying the crusaders havent got alot of work 2do which is what i suggested? i honestly cannot believe how hostile and bitter you are being!

Widnes average was 3300 and this for a club who has not seen superleague action since 2005!

ps they were only in only in superleague for 4 yrs which to me aint several is it?

I'd sooner have 900 new Welsh fans than 5000 old northern ones anyway. That's expansion.

so scrapping 5000 fans and replacing them with 900 is expansion! you are beautiful you really are.

Bottom line is Celtic are light yrs from getting a franchise compared to other clubs, the only thing they have going for them is that the club is in wales, and that is it!

What are you talking about? How is four years not several? Where have I said Celtic don't have a lot of work to do? Do you have no relevant points of your own so you have to repeat mine?

Nobody's suggesting Celtic are ready for a franchise - personally I think 2009 would be too early - but to try and put down their efforts is ridiculous. They averaged a third of what Widnes did in a division below, with minimal travelling support, having only existed for two years. They obviously aren't going to have a massive fan base overnight but they almost doubled their average from 2006 and look set to continue to make strides after their rightful promotion to NL1.

A lot of National League fans are absolutely pathetic - they laughed at Celtic's efforts, claiming they would never be successful, and now they have enjoyed a degree of success on the field they must have cheated and get rubbish crowds. The truth is that in just one year Celtic outgrew most of the stagnant 'traditional' clubs in NL2, and most fans are either apprehensive and worried about the threat of a new club that could potentially put the cat amongst the pigeons or jealous of Celtic's progress.

Look to me it really comes down to whether samuels is wiling to move a lot of games to cardiff or swansea if he does not they won't get a franchise, brigend has a population of my home town 40 thousand hardly enough to get corporate support or crowd support for superleague i am not bagging them but at present it would be a disaster if they where put in at there current growth.

Rumours suggest that the money is more like 60 million pound not 50, which suggests there may even be a chance of 3 new teams. By not admitting toulouse it would be a huge mistake read this link http://www.totalrl.com/fansforum/index.php?showtopic=43029
they to me are a shoe in, sure there crowd averages are only 1500 much like celtic but
they * have had a crowd of 12 thousand for a test vs kiwis in 2005.
* coilbers hosted a international vs tonga which got 8 thousand through the gate.
( a superb of toulouse)
*have fantanical support in near by towns of lezignan & limoux.
* have support of rugby union in toulouse.

How would accepting an expansion club be "scrapping" fans? If Widnes can get 5000 to a game in NL1 they aren't going to disappear if Celtic makes SL. But if they're 5000 whiney northern flatcappers who can't accept the need to grow the game then who cares if they do anyway.

And you forgot one thing about their franchise application compared to others - they didn't go broke a couple of months ago!

Good on ya Crusaders!

I hope to see them tear through Nat.Div.1 this year as they have through div.2 and div.3 in previous years.

Along with this, their crowds have been growning, and as one of the above posters has pointed out, as they go up in the divisions, they will be the reciepient of many more traveling supporters, and will begin to grow their local fanbase beyond the very loyal supports that they have already. I see a good year for Welsh RL.

I would think that the Super League would be MAD not to let them into the ESL if they win the league this year. If expansion is NOT in the cards (franchise system), then I would think they are a shoe in when this does happen.
