Nz2 can’t come fast enough
I recall at the time those comments made, there was no imminent prospect of streaming services getting into NRL coverage for NZ.Interesting chat. Remember when we were told that no spark meant Sky would have no competition..?
Is there a single argument that the Union trolls made that holds up?
I think the Wellington part of the Orca bid may get them the nod. I can't see the NRL wanting a 3rd NZ team, so if they reason that NZ 2 will cover-off Christchurch AND Wellington they'll consider it "job done" for NZ.So who's framing as favourite for nz2?! New stadium means team will all likelihood be based in Christchurch. Kea seems no goer while other bid may have dropped out. Orcas still remain but I think they are too focused on Wellington.
Guy was a liability in defence but I was still surprised another NRL side didn’t give him a chance.
Yeh letting him go was a good move
Bad move for me to potentially involve wellington with Christchurch.I think the Wellington part of the Orca bid may get them the nod. I can't see the NRL wanting a 3rd NZ team, so if they reason that NZ 2 will cover-off Christchurch AND Wellington they'll consider it "job done" for NZ.
A mistake IMO because I strongly believe Christchurch AND Wellington need to be in the expansion timeline in the next decade or two with their own teams.. but I know Australian leagues are reluctant when it comes to multiple NZ teams.
If NZ 2 is focused on the South Island exclusively (say a Christchurch/Dunedin split), it also means the Warriors only have one decent option for "home away from home" games - Wellington.Bad move for me to potentially involve wellington with Christchurch.
NZ2 needs to be 100% a South Island based team.

And I'd be totally on board with that - plus it leaves a bit more scope for a 3rd NZ team, based in Wellington.
Don’t forget about Hamilton. If NZ 2 is focused on the South Island exclusively (say a Christchurch/Dunedin split), it also means the Warriors only have one decent option for "home away from home" games - Wellington.
would give you a nice geographical spread if nothing else. And I'd be totally on board with that - plus it leaves a bit more scope for a 3rd NZ team, based in Wellington.
Hamilton is close enough that many people from there make the hour odd drive regularly, whereas Wellington is a similar drive time than say Sydney to Melbourne.Don’t forget about Hamilton.

Christchurch is a decent sized city that’s growing every year and is a sports mad city with amazing new stadium to boot.Hamilton is close enough that many people from there make the hour odd drive regularly, whereas Wellington is a similar drive time than say Sydney to Melbourne.
Problem is BOTH ChCh and Wellington are solid options but in reality only one will get the nod, South Island only caters to 20% of the population just north of 1M. Most remaining north islanders will gravitate towards the Warriors but in reality there’s 50% of NZ population that don’t really have a team of their own if NZ2 is South Island. NZ2 being Wellington essentially groups in around 2M in the lower north Island.
3 NZ teams would be the ideal as a combined Wellington/ChCh team is too much to cover but a South Island only team is kinda too small of a market to alienate 80% of NZ population

I’d more than settle for 2 New Zealand NRL teams.By the time NZ most likely gets a second NRL 35 years will have passed. Nz3 will never happen. Rivalry will be based on North & South Island dynamic.
When the Broncos first arrived, they were the Queensland team, then you had the Cowboys which ate up the North making the Broncos more the team for people south of Rockhampton, then we had the GC which pulled back their support south of Beenleigh.. now the Dolphins have their slice. If NZ 2 is focused on the South Island exclusively (say a Christchurch/Dunedin split), it also means the Warriors only have one decent option for "home away from home" games - Wellington.

People underestimate the validity of another Melbourne team imoI’d more than settle for 2 New Zealand NRL teams.
places will be scarce what with Queensland and Adelaide and maybe even another Melbourne team fighting for franchises.
Mate he couldn’t even lace a 50 year old Steve Renouf‘s boots!!!He was a fat Steve Renouf
Now he’s not fat
