Cup not on in Oz

Today I rang both Foxtel and the NRL, I can confirm that the Challenge Cup will NOT be shown in Oz.

Very disappointed, that leaves only a couple of days now for something drastic to change that.

Lets face it....there just isnt any interest.

If Foxtel, the NRL, Nine or anyone else decided to promote the fact League is played outside of Sydney then maybe there would be interest.

Garbage decision. The real reason -- the rights would cost too much. It's not a "throwaway" game like the Union sh*t they play.

I'm pretty sure it will be on here in NZ. Sky have shown it live for the last couple of years.

Yes, just checked, it's live on Sky Sport 3 from 1.25am on sunday morning. Looking forward to it.

This decision is disgraceful. Just noticing some scheduling in the new foxtel guide, South African RU (Currie Cup) have prime weekend TV slots while Super League is shunted to Friday morning or early early Saturday morning.

Pissweak and here's the full reason.

CUP BLACKOUT: Sobering news amid all the backslapping over how well the game is going right now. For the first time in 20 years, the Challenge Cup final won't been seen on Australian TV at all. Fox Sports baulked at the $US10,000 ($13,230) the BBC wanted for the rights to the Leeds-Hull game from Millennium Stadium. This is the game that the likes of Andrew Johns and Peter Sterling remember sitting up and watching as children. Even David Gallop's intervention could not prevent a sad end to this tradition.

I remember watching Challenge Cups as a kid on regular Australian TV, for free!

Channel Nine (or whoever it was then) would have payed some money for the rights and fitted it into their schedule - and now we have payTV sports channels with subscription money to burn not willing to fork out the 13K?

Wonder how much Foxtel are happy to pay for each sub-standard Union competition game they cover? Still not convinced they are a friend to the game - they may bid for rights etc, but like News Ltd I don't know what their true agenda (beyond simple profit) is...

Pretty poor form.

13 RL fans paying 1 years subscription would pay for the coverage, as i said before, if fox didn't have the NRL, i would not pay any money whatsoever for TV.

NZ,SA and the rest get all there club RU comps put on out here, knowone is interested in it, unless your a real rah rah fan and lets face it, there ain't that many of them, they have new shows poping up all the time(total Rugby) ect, ect, another replay of SA v Aus Tri nations game, that makes 6 replays in 6 days

.

Now i just got the new TV guide and as has been said the SL is shunted around like the little kid at the corner store, while RU, Darts, Dancing(FFS), Swimming and every other bloody yank sport gets prime time veiwing and endless replays.

Why is it that NZ get great RL coverage and they are supposed to be a RU nation and Australia with a much bigger population and who follows RL gets nothing?

I swear they are trying to kill RL and make RU the N1 game, and RU people say were paranoid, well why wouldn't we be with the way were treated?

Fox treats its most important subscription source as second class simply because they know they can get away with it. Their business ethics, their standard of service and the sheer ignorance on display in regard to what people want or would enjoy if given the opportunity is 3rd rate at best. It's a shame but the only time in their history that they have ever listened to what we want is when they had a competitor breathing down their neck. Apparently profit matters, quality never does.

Jed's a little bit busy right now, but he asked me to post this for you lads and lasses:

Jed said:
The UK Rugby League challenge cup final, this Saturday night, will be shown on FOX 1 at 8am this Sunday (28th) morning due to commitments with the Ashes & English Premier League

I guess they've delivered :)
