Sorry DC, you cling to overly positive articles like that if you like, but basically everyone who isnt a Dallas Cowboys fan or beat writer is panning this thing... and with good reason.

the other aspect is Kickers are notoriously streaky, there is every chance at some point of this deal Bailey will have a rough trott and miss a couple of kicks in a season, might even cost them a game or two and they'll want to cut him but cant because they'd be paying millions in dead money... for a kicker

its a terrible deal, you just dont sign guys as fungible as Kickers to 6 years extensions. It's Jerreh lunacy. If no one else is signing Kickers to 6 years extensions, it probably pays to ask why before inking your guy to one.

I have no problem with it. I am a member of a Cowboys forum where 99.999999 percent of the members don't have a problem with it. This is a forum where members love to give it to Jerry and the team when they believe a bad move has been made.

I have read a number of publications who also love to give it to the Cowboys. Very few if any of them have criticised the move.

Outside of the website you mentioned I have heard little if any criticism.

Scott Linehan will be the Cowboys new offensive play caller

While contracts have not been agreed on yet it seems pretty certain that Linehan will be a Cowboy.

He will replace Bill Callahan/Jason Garrett who called the plays this season. It is expected that Callahan will complete the final year of his contract.

Could be some interesting times ahead for the Cowboys and Romo as Linehan loves the passing game.

The hiring of Linehan will allow Garrett to do what he is supposed to do and that's be head coach. He will be judged on that and that alone.

Garrett is in the last year of his contract. Coaches in his position are often referred to as a Lame Duck Coaches.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. I don't see Garrett getting an extension on his contract before the season starts. If things start going sour during next season then I suspect Garrett will be shown the door pretty quickly.

Just sack him now though.
If he cant be trusted to play call, then he isnt a HC. That's his friggin job!

going forward with a lame duck coach is not going to produce a season worth worrying about, sack him now and move on to the next hire (though i suspect they've left it too late now and all the best hires have come and gone)

Not every head coach calls the plays.

The Cowboys made their decision to stick with Garrett for at least one more year. That is not going to change now.

Its up to Garrett to prove he can coach in this league. My feeling is that he can. But he just needs to show it.

Marinelli promoted and Kiffin demoted

The Cowboys have announced that Rod Marinelli will take over the role of defensive coordinator from Monte Kiffin.

Marinelli was the defensive line coach this season. Considering the injuries the line suffered he did a fine job.

Kiffin has been given a new title assistant head coach/defense.

 f**k me

why has jerreh all of a sudden become terrified of sacking someone. Besides the fact Kiffin should NEVER have got the job in the first place, Kiffin should have been sacked in their friggin bye week, now they move him aside when sacking him is absolutely the right and fair thing to do. His defense was f**king horrendous last season.

Absolute fiasco.

Believe this or not, but Jerry is very loyal to his staff. He really doesn't like sacking people.

Kiffins time as a NFL defensive coordinator passed a few years back. You are right the Cowboys defense was terrible. Something had to be done and it has been done. Kiffin will have little to do with defense next season. Marinelli will have total control over the defense.

What is Monte Kiffin going to give you as an organisation, if he's not having anything to do with the defense?

Just sack him.

Jerreh... what a muppet. Long may his reign continue, the Cowboys are redefining mediocrity right now and i love it!

Roger Staubach: I’d love to see Troy Aikman working in Cowboys’ front office; ‘He could be another John Elway'

In three seasons as executive vice president of football operations, John Elway has helped lead the Denver Broncos to three consecutive playoff berths and a Super Bowl appearance.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach says Troy Aikman could have similar success in an executive position with the Cowboys.

Staubach and Aikman were on hand Wednesday to help unveil the newly-renovated Cooper Fitness Center in Dallas. Some of the discussions the two Hall of Fame quarterbacks had with the media after the event involved the possibility of Aikman becoming general manager of the Cowboys.

“It would depend on Stephen [Jones] and Jerry [Jones] sitting down with Troy and figuring out how Troy could contribute in a significant way,” Staubach said. “I think it’s a good idea. There might be a formula there somewhere. I’m a big Aikman guy so I think whatever he’s going to do, he’s going to do well.

“He could be another John Elway, as far as a general manager. Elway’s done a great job in Denver, so I think if they could figure out a way that would work with the family situation I would love to see Troy involved with the Cowboys.”

Aikman said he hasn’t received any calls from the Jones family and added that he doesn’t expect to receive any in the near future.

“I’ve been asked a lot over the years whether or not it’s something that I would want to do down the road,” said Aikman, who is currently an NFL sportscaster for FOX. “I probably speak for a lot of guys who played at one time or another who maybe have entertained the idea, and I certainly have. I think the timing right now probably wouldn’t be good. The job I have is great, it affords me a lot of time with my young daughters. You don’t get that kind of time with them if you’re serving in an executive role.

If the timing is right, down the road, it’s something that I would certainly consider.”

The Cowboys have missed the playoffs the last four years while the Broncos have put together consecutive 13-win regular seasons. Perhaps giving Aikman a shot in the front office would provide more of a positive spark than continually changing offensive and defensive coordinators.

“I think a lot has to do with Stephen [Jones],” Staubach said of the team’s executive vice president. “I like Stephen. I think Stephen’s a young up-and-comer. He’s getting a lot of experience. It’s really Stephen and Jerry trying to say, ‘Do we want somebody to come into our life now and help us?’ I think Aikman would be an ideal situation and one that maybe could work.”

Cowboys win toss for draft position

The Cowboys and the Ravens finished the season 8-8 and could not be separated for draft positions 16 and 17.

A toss was completed today which the Cowboys won. So the Cowboys pick in 16th position and the Ravens in 17th spot.

Sources: Dallas Cowboys to interview Johnny Manziel at NFL Combine

INDIANAPOLIS — Johnny Manziel will interview with the Dallas Cowboys at the NFL scouting combine, according to sources.

But don’t read too much into this meeting, which won’t occur today.

Manziel, the Texas A&M phenom, is expected to be off the board long before the Cowboys are on the clock with the 16th pick. Besides that, owner Jerry Jones has said the team does not plan to invest an early-round choice in a quarterback.

After all, the Cowboys just signed Tony Romo to a six-year, $108 million extension in March 2013.

So why sit down with Manziel?

A better question: Why not take the time to pick his brain?

The Cowboys are allowed to interview 60 players in Indianapolis.
And Manziel, who grew up a Cowboys fan, has caught the attention of almost everyone, including Dallas head coach Jason Garrett.

“I met after one of our games and I just said, ‘Congratulations,’” Garrett said. “He’s a great football player and someone I admire a great deal. If you’re a fan of football and you watch Texas A&M play, he’s something else. He’s done an amazing job in a short period of time during his career for that program. He’s really fun to watch…Certainly everybody is excited to see where he goes and what he does because he is such a great football player.”

Dallas, however, doesn’t appear a likely destination for Manziel.

Cowboys could be looking for a new quarterback for 2014

Speculation is rife that Kyle Orton may not be playing (for any team) in 2014.

If he does walk away from the team it creates the need for a new backup quarterback. A spot I don't believe will be filled by a rookie.

My feeling is that they would look for a veteran as backup and draft a rookie (mid rounds) to groom as a future starter.

Jerry Jones: No guarantee DeMarcus Ware will be with the Dallas Cowboys next season; ‘You can’t have it all’

Jerry Jones said Monday evening that there’s no guarantee that defensive end DeMarcus Ware will play another season with the Dallas Cowboys.

Ware is scheduled to count $16 million against the salary cap in 2014 and the Cowboys likely can’t afford him at that price. If Ware, 31, is going to remain in Dallas his contract will need to be restructured or the amount of money will need to be reduced.

“There’s no question when you are where we are on the cap, even though we’ve had some new cap space added, and you have a defensive player that’s your highest paid defensive player, and he hasn’t been on the field much the last two years, that has to be considered,” Jones said on ESPN’s SportsCenter. “You can’t have it all.”

The Cowboys owner and general manager gave an example of one time getting off his personal plane and into a Ford Bronco at the airport. When a reporter questioned why Jones didn’t have a more expensive vehicle, Jones responded: “Well, in order to have a plane, you have to drive a five-year-old Bronco. You can’t have it all.

“We’ve got those kinds of decisions to make, which is a part of what makes it so exciting in the NFL.”

Jones explained the changes the Cowboys have made on defense and how they have forced the seven-time Pro Bowler to play with his hand on the ground.

Ware, who had been an outside linebacker in the Cowboys 3-4 scheme during his first eight seasons in the NFL, moved to defensive end last year and turned in the worst season of his career. He missed three games and finished with six sacks and 40 tackles, both career lows.

“He’s had a tough time getting on the practice field because of various injuries,” Jones said. “All of that we have to weigh with how much of that has impacted him for the future as well as where he is in his career and with his age.

“Those are the ingredients in the stew. Now we’ve got to stir it up and see where we’re going. It will be a very difficult call for us because of how much salary cap he uses.”

Cowboys release four players

Dallas have released Everette Brown DE, Corvey Irvin DT, Jeff Olson G & Ray Dominguez G.

Their release will save a very small amount on the salary cap.

2014 Post-Combine Mock Draft Tracker: New Names For Cowboys?

Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh
NFL.com (Jeremiah), Feb27 Comment: "Donald is gaining steam after a dominant season, Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine."

CBSSports (Brugler), Feb 26 Comment: "Donald will be an attractive prospect to play the three-technique spot for Dallas' four-man front with his explosive, relentless play style."

CBSSports (Rang), Feb 26 Comment: "More decorated than a wedding cake, Donald offers the buzz Jerry Jones always appreciates as well as the burst to wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks from the middle."

SI.com (Burke), Feb 26 Comment: "Sure, Clowney’s 4.53 40 time was incredible. But Donald’s 4.65, at 280-plus pounds, might have been even better. The Cowboys do not have any cash lying around with which to re-sign Jason Hatcher. Nabbing Donald would make Hatcher’s impending departure sting a lot less. The Pitt product is capable of disrupting offenses on a consistent basis."

Optimum Scouting (Galko), Feb 26 Comment: "Safety or defensive line. Those are the clear positions of need for Dallas to address, and I’d guess they double up at both positions in this draft. With the two top safeties gone and the best defensive tackle/inside speed rusher in this class available, Donald seems like a no-brainer here. Do not rule out Johnny Manziel if he starts to slip on draft day."

Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State
Draftseason (Edlund), Feb 28 Comment: "The Cowboys need a defensive tackle who can penetrate and create ruckus in the backfield in order to make their Tampa 2 scheme work. Jernigan is coming off a sub par Combine, but he has some great tape showing what kind of destructive penetrator he is. He’d be a solid choice for the Boys here."

USA Today (Davis), Feb 27 Comment: "Pro Bowl DT Jason Hatcher is scheduled to be a free agent, and Dallas desperately (and unsuccessfully) searched for players to put next to him last year before ultimately finishing last in total defense."

CBSSports (Prisco), Feb 26 Comment: "The Cowboys might be losing Jason Hatcher and there isn't much else around. Jernigan can play a lot of roles."

Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota

SB Nation (Kadar), Feb 24 Comment: "If both safeties are off the board, the Cowboys should target the best defensive tackle in the draft. Whether that's Hageman or Aaron Donald, that's up for debate. Hageman is more versatile and just plain has more potential."

Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri

Drafttek.com, Feb28 Comment: "Can Ol' Long Ball make a confession? The last 2 simulations, I put a Grab on Ealy but took it off this time to see if the computer was smarter than me. Well, guess what? (quit snickering, I know what you're thinking!) . . . my goodness, the computer must know that DeMarcus Ware had elbow surgery and Cuzzin Jerruh is negotiating through the press to reduce his $12.25 million compensation for 2014! Anthony Spencer was paid the franchise tag for a non-participatory season due to injury and he is an UFA in 2014. Will Tyrone Crawford come back from injury? George Selvie is a nice rotational piece, but the rest of the roster is filled with JAGs (there were 20 different players who played DL for the Cowboys in 2013). Kony Ealy's explosion was on total display in Missouri's 2013 game against Florida. "

Khalil Mack, LB, Buffalo

Ourlads.com, Feb 26 Comment: "The Cowboys need to generate a pass rush opposite Demarcus Ware in the Tampa-2. Mack can widen out and bring it. His versatility as a hand-in-the-dirt pass rusher or a standup outside linebacker helps his stock. He features an explosive and sudden first step when rushing the passer. For the past four years he has been a disruptive playmaker despite teams’ accounting for him on every play. He led the Bulls with 100 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 3 interceptions, 10 passes defended, and 5 forced fumbles.

CJ Mosley, LB, Alabama

Foxsports (Klatt), Feb 26 Comment: "They need help in the secondary, but they would be overdrafting if they took a C or FS here. The best defensive player available is Mosley, and it is a great value."
