Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was arrested Monday by DeSoto police on a family violence charge.
Details about the criminal allegations were unavailable, but officials at the DeSoto jail said the incident occurred Saturday, when officers took a report from the alleged victim.
Detectives followed up and obtained an arrest warrant Monday for a class A misdemeanor.
Bryant turned himself in to police Monday and posted bond.
Bryant confirmed to WFAA-TV that there had been an incident, but he declined to go into detail.
"I'm good, I'm good," he told WFAA.
On Monday, Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple said, "We are in the process of gathering information and will not have a comment at this time."
Drew Rosenhaus, Bryant's agent, also had no comment when reached Monday evening.
This is the second time in six months that Bryant has had a run-in with the law. Back in January, he was involved in an altercation outside a Miami nightclub and was detained by police but not arrested.
Bryant was also been named in multiple lawsuits regarding unpaid jewelry debts of more than $500 thousand last year, and was kicked out of NorthPark Center and temporarily banned in March 2011 for inappropriate attire.
In November, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed Bryant's inconsistency both on and off the football field.
"He has been frustrating and he has been elating," Jones said. "It’s exactly what we thought when we drafted him right to the T. And so if we didn’t plan on having a little frustration we should have gone a different direction. No surprises with him."
Staff writers Avi Selk and Rainer Sabin contributed to this report.

Dudes a bum. This is what happens when you don't make your bitch carry the pads. He wants to be T.O but doesnt have a quarter of the talent. All this on the most expensive side in the comp. Sell him on & find a team player,

I have no doubt the guy has talent. If he could only get his off-field problems sorted out. A lot of people, just like you are saying to get rid of him.

I think you will find the team will only do that as a very much last resort. It's not as though the team is over loaded with talent at WR. The offensive match plan for this season was built around having Austin and Bryant as the receivers.

I don't like Dallas but they have more than a good core. With what funds they have they need to make a play for a good vet with a few years left in him & make a real run for it. Or a proven solid young guy, like a Jeremy Maclin or Quintorris Jones, that can get it done. Bryant is starting to have that Roy Williams stink about him. You know he could dominate if he wanted to, but he just wont.

Dez Bryant's mug shot from the DeSoto Jail.

DeSoto police officials say they will send a case today to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office accusing Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant of domestic violence assault.

Bryant, 23, has been accused of assaulting his mother last Saturday. The Class A misdemeanor offense is punishable by up to a year in jail.

It will be up to Dallas County prosecutors to decide whether or not to proceed with prosecution.

Bryant’s mother, Angela, told police that he grabbed her, ripped her T-shirt and bra, pulled her hair and slapped her in the face with his ball cap. She also accused the troubled athlete of attempting to throw a ball at her.

Cowboys release one rookie RB and sign another

Dallas have waived rookie runningback Darrell Scott and signed rookie Ed Wesley.

Wesley nominated for the Supplemental Draft, But failed to be drafted and this made hima free agent.

He stands 5-9 and weighs 200 pound. Ed had a three year college career at TCU and finished with 2,457 rushing yards at an average of 6.3 and 21 touchdowns.

Training Camp Notes

Some thoughts from the July 26 practice:
  • Disappointed that wide receiver Tim Benford went off the field today because he needed an IV due to the heat. I thought yesterday was an outstanding first day and that was going to carry over. Benford plays much faster than his timed speed and he has a feel for how to get in and out of his cuts. Had a drop on the vertical route where he had Claiborne beat, but the majority of the time, his hands are reliable. The Cowboys front office had a sixth round grade on him on their draft board, so they thought enough of him.
  • I really like these young corners. Thought that Claiborne looked more comfortable today and had some nice battles. Technique looked much better today so I am sure that Jerome Henderson had the chance to coach him a little more on tape from yesterday. Isaac Madison had a nice play yesterday and Lionel Smith is getting good work out of the slot.
  • The Cowboys added running back Ed Wesley from TCU to the running back mix today. Wesley was in the supplemental draft before training camp opened. The problem with Wesley was he wasn’t in good shape for his workout and ran a poor 40-yard dash. If you study the tape, he is a good player and in my view a better player than Darrell Scott, who they just released. Wesley is a one-back runner that sees the hole then makes a cut. He has good hands out of the backfield but will need to develop as a blocker. He can be a physical load when he gets to the outside.
  • Stephen McGee is struggling early here in camp throwing the ball. The questions about McGee have always been trying to make him speed up his clock to get rid of the ball quicker and not hold it. Where McGee has struggled is with his accuracy with some of the routes that he is trying to throw. His ball has been high and the receivers are really having to work to make catches.
  • Just watching these young offensive linemen work, I expect to see guys like Pat McQuistan and Jermey Parnell to get plenty of work in these preseason games. Ronald Leary should get plenty of work as well. Jeff Adams, Tyrone Novifoff, Levy Adcock and Harland Gunn will get work too, but to really get a good look at these running backs and wide receivers, McQuistan and Parnell are going to have to carry the load. Feel there is going to be a great deal of pressure when those young guys get in until they learn.
  • Linebackers did a nice job today of reading routes and getting their hands on passes. Only had the one bust where Ed Wesley was able to get in the flat and up the field when Alex Albright got caught inside. Aston Whiteside and Orie Lemon were in position on several routes and were able to defend balls. I haven’t noticed Caleb McSurdy much but have a feeling that I will see him more when the pads come on.
  • Sean Lissemore and Tyrone Crawford still continue to be difficult to block. Robert Callaway at nose was having a slow practice then showed a little life in the team period rushing the passer.
  • Teddy Williams is an outstanding athlete and his movement has really improved, but he needs to do a much better job of finishing plays when he has the chance. For the second day, he allowed a ball to get past him. Benford had a chance to make a catch and Cole Beasley made a nice adjusting catch. Williams has to do a better job of making those plays.
  • Safety Justin Taplin-Ross made his second nice play of the camp when he was able to react and drive on a route inside to knock a ball away. Taplin-Ross also had an interception where in man coverage he was able to carry James Hanna up the field, stay in position, adjust and snatch Stephen McGee’s pass.
  • Thought that Kyle Orton threw the ball better today than yesterday. There is no doubt about Orton’s arm strength, but he also has very good, deep ball touch. Was really impressed with his ability to lay the ball in there for receivers.

    • Some thoughts from the July 27 practice:
    • Play of the day: Cole Beasley lines up as the left outside receiver; Morris Claiborne is lined up five yards off. At the snap, Beasley heads up the field at Claiborne, who gets too wide in his base and over-extends to try and slow down Beasley’s run. Beasley is able to work past Claiborne and heads up the field. On the inside, Tim Benford is running a route that keeps safety Eddie Whitley in the middle of the field. Whitley tries to adjust to close in the window between Claiborne and himself. While the ball is in the air, Beasley has to speed up, then lay out to make the catch, which he does. It was a great route by Benford inside and a great catch by Beasley outside.
    • In training camp it is all about making plays. Cornerback Teddy Williams looks to have a much better understanding of his technique, but he needs to do a better job of finishing his plays. On one snap, wide receiver Saalim Hakim carried Williams up the field and Williams was in nice position as Hakim stopped to drive back for the ball on the comeback. But, Williams gets caught on his heels and is unable to make it back to Hakim, who makes the catch on the comeback. There has been once a day when you see Williams in position but not finishing.
    • Talked about Beasley yesterday and how he will need to run outside routes to be on this team. Today he had a chance to run the slant and make a play for Stephen McGee. Beasley sold the route outside, then broke hard inside. From the slot to his side, tight end James Hanna runs to the flat trying to pull safety Eddie Whitley outside to use him as a pick for Beasley on Isaac Madison the corner. Instead, Beasley gets tied up with Whitley and it throws the timing off of the route. McGee actually made a nice throw to Beasley, but incomplete.
    • Been singing the praises of defensive end Sean Lissemore latel,y but today during team run wasn’t one of his better days. One of Lissemore’s strengths is his ability to play with his hands and get off blocks. Today he was having to deal with some “power” blocks, when the tight end and tackle work together. Lissemore was handled by James Hanna one time, then by Andrew Szczerba the next on down blocks. On the Hanna block he was playing as the strong side end.
    • I will once again mention that I feel like the roster move of adding running back Ed Wesley will be a good thing. Wesley made a really nice jump cut backside when guard Ronald Leary made a trap block. Wesley showed great vision and athletic ability to pull that off.
    • There is plenty of quickness in the open field for running back Lance Dunbar. One of the things you noticed on his college tape was his ability to catch passes, and today he made a really nice adjusting catch the in the flat. Dunbar ran hard at linebacker Dan Connor, made a little shake move, then broke outside. Connor had to really scramble to try and cover the ground.
    • Safety Justin Taplin-Ross has had a couple of practices where he has done a really good job of driving on the ball to make some plays. Today, Benford runs an “In” and on the same plays that Taplin-Ross had been making reacting to the ball, he was way late. Benford made the catch.
    • The defensive coaches are doing a nice job of rotating these young linebackers. Kyle Wilber will usually see action on the strong side, but today he swapped spots with Adrian Hamilton, who played the strong side. Alex Albright has also seen some work inside as well.
    • Guard Ronald Leary looks more than athletic and powerful enough to compete for the starting guard spot, but how quickly he picks up things mentally will be the difference for him.
    • I am getting worried about the injury to center/guard Kevin Kowalski, who is still walking around the field with a brace on his ankle. This team needs him in the mix helping in these upcoming preseason games.
