Dally M controversy: judge steps down

In line with the credibility of the award, it should be renamed the Beccy Ws. And you lose points not only for a suspension but also for any drink driving charge as well. Double demerits.

I remember in 2013 my one true Bae Sonny Bill was about 78 times better than anyone else in the NRL and yet he finished about 10-20th in the voting. The likes of Jarrod Mullen, Josh Reynolds, John Sutton and Luke freaking Walsh polled higher.

Just throw the award system in the bin where it belongs.

As far as Ruan she must have copped 1 to many shoulder chargers from Tariq and Corbin arguing whether they are from NSW QLD or Fiji.

Surely as a Sibling of someone playing the game she shouldn't be allowed to do this if you can bet on the dally m's.

Especially since when you watch her on 100% Footy it’s abundantly clear that she lets things involving her brothers cloud her judgement.

You can just tell she went "Api plays for Fiji with my bros. I like him. I'll chuck him the 1 point....even though his team just got a hiding".

I like how she said it was an honest mistake. It looks like a pretty dishonest mistake to me.

Why was she ever given the job anyway?

When you get utterly hammered, it’s inconceivable you could collect a point. There’s no way known to man this wasn’t a Nadi Gs reprezent muh homies moment.

I reckon she would’ve got the punt more for that. It’s so blatantly ridiculous it’s obvious

Who f**king cares?
The Dally M's lost their legitimate credibility a loooooong time ago. Anyone basing arguments over players form/abilities/legacy based on Dally M gongs has already conceded they dont have any idea.

The entire format needs a total and complete overhaul

The 3-2-1 format while simple doesnt reward teams who have multiple good players

They steal points from each other

While bottom placed teams will have a star player who gets lots of points
I think the RLW method of 1-10 is a fairer system

It also allows referees to do a return to the Rothmans medal style award

Seems to me that the current Dally M voting process seems to parallel how the MRC operates laying charges

A couple of years ago, Josh Hodgson came off the bench against the Warriors and played absolutely lights out, easily best on ground.

Darryl Halligan, who was calling the game, mentioned that Hodgson was outstanding but couldn’t get any Dally M points because he came off the bench - even though he played the same minutes as always.

I remember thinking to myself “thank f**k you’re not the judge, that’s ridiculous”. I was wrong. End result was Hodgson didn’t get a point, and the judge? D. Halligan.

What a ridiculous system.

Blocker wouldn’t vote outside of the forward pack so that would be a good thing. Took a year for the ages for Taumalolo to get half a dally m award in a comp that forwards usually get well shafted in

You forgot that in 2013 when they handed out the positional awards, the Dally M Second Rower of the Year Award went to Boyd Cordner. Even Cordner was embarrassed as he felt it should have been SBW.

Is it not well known that they've changed how positional awards are issued now?

I'd still have Ruan Sims not watching the game and voting over Blocker watching it and voting between mouthfuls of pudding and pies.

Blocker takes his voting very seriously. Cover page and all.

She is not the only one. Sometimes you see a hard fought match with not many points score with both forward packs working their butts off just for the Dally M judge to award the 3 points to the half back or "star player".

A good example of this is the GF Cowboys v Broncos where other then the field goal Thurston had a poor game and Morgan had a blinder yet they give Thurston the Clive Churchill medal.
