Not sure the situation's entirely her fault given she was playing at the time of the game. It seems odd that she would've been allocated to judge that match in those circumstances.
Regardless, it doesn't excuse some of the appalling comments towards and about her on Twitter over this.
I feel sorry for her regarding nasty personal criticism, but she should have advised the NRL she couldn't be at the game to watch it live (one of the guidelines). Also, it's been covered over that the matter only became an issue because people mentioned it on social media. The NRL & Ruan Sims only reacted to this, it's taken a week.
Why didn't she say something last week? In fact, she should've told them she couldn't be at the game live & asked them to appoint another person to allocate points. I think she didn't do this because she worried she wouldn't have been given as many opportunities if she told the NRL she couldn't do it. However, she had a valid reason & should've just told them.
If a male judge was found to be in the same situation (ie - not at the ground to watch the game live), I'm sure the criticism would have been much worse. I think there needs to be a balance of how people are treated - the current emphasis on political correctness can impact on how people react to different issues.
