This could really go down to the wire.

No doubt Carney has been awesome over the past couple of weeks but he may of left his run too late.

Before him Lockyer was consistently the best five eigth in the game. Even when the Broncos had that losing streak at the start of the season Lockyer was able to put together some very impressive performances and he took his game to the next level after that Test match.

Still five weeks to go though and if Carney is up to it he can take the mantle.

Guess its a case of how many games does a player need to play in this position. Carney would be the favourite without knowing that, Lockyer would be the next best. No one else really stands out.

carney should win the halfback of the year too then.
He played more games at halfback then 5/8

And yet his highlights package at 5/8 already and quite possibly in weeks to come is going to be longer than 95% of others this year and have pretty much lined the platform for him to be the new NSW playmaker. If all you've got to whinge about is that he hasn't racked up a huge amount of games (although by the end of the year he should have enough) then you're really clutching at straws.

Don't see how Carney can get it > Lockyer.

Brett Finch has had a decent year too.

if carney wins the 5/8 , then its a bigger joke then ennis winning the hooker of the year, last year.

The award suppose to be based on the position where a player plays most at of the year .

Carney was at fullback where he picked up alot of his points

It should go to whoever has earnt the most points playing 5/8th, not the person who finishes the year in 5/8th even though they possibly accrued points in other positions, ie Todd Carney shouldn't be in the running.

People are forgetting Dally M positional awards are not determined by points like the player of the year, it's discretion based. Last year Ennis got hooker of the year despite polling way less votes than Robbie Farah. Josh Morris got centre of the year despite just picking up 3 Dally M points all season. So Carney not picking up enough votes at 5'8th is irrelevant.

I would say Carney could end up with player of the year.
Dugan will get fullback and lockyer will get 5/8th unless Carney gets man of the match for almost every remaining game then his a chance for 5/8th as well.

I reckon carney is a strong chance for Player of the year. In the last five rounds he had to of gotten at least 12 points, if not more.
