Ok, so based on that, what is Foran's new contract worth? He is young and inexperienced. What happens if he doesn't kick on over the next 4 years?
No dramas, I'll explain my thoughts on the subject in full.
If Keiran Foran doesn't kick on, well that gamble hasn't paid off. I stand by the comment I made as it is fitting for both players.
However if I were forced to gamble on either Trent Hodkinson or Keiran Foran (which it seems Manly has had to do), I'd be putting my valuable cash on the latter. From my perspective Keiran appears to set up more of our attacking options than Trent and considering he is not the halfback , well that provides me with more confidence in him and his style of play going forward as a club. On a side note, we couldn't afford to lose both of them and we couldn't afford to pay over the odds for both young players either.
Now on Trent, for a halfback, Trent Hodkinson at this stage of his career isn't controlling the game (seriously though I didn't expect him to). Trent burst on the scene, but basically won the City Origin spot by default (not his fault), and now his game has been analysed by opposition coaches and the first year debutant is trying to adjust on the run mid season. Trent Hodkinson will probably need an off season to settle down, understand his game at this level and ultimately find his feet. Following that he'll probably require another off season to make a statement about who he really is as a Rugby League halfback... by then he'll reach 50 or so games and start to become an established first grader in the most difficult of rugby league positions.... That is why Trent is the bigger gamble. It's not easy to make the grade as a half back.
Keiran isn't a halfback but many BETTER JUDGES than you or I believe in his ability as a five eighth (ie 2nd option playmaker), some of these judges represent our club, others represent the New Zealand RL brains trust as he has been selected at test level. I'll back that judgement, along with my own idea's and knowledge of what it takes to make it at the elite level... and support the signing of Keiran over Trent for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles. It is sad because I believed that their games could grow together in that they complimented each other, but that is yesterdays rubbish today.
Finally to answer the first part of your question. Mate I seriously do not know what Keiran's latest contract is worth... and since the Melbourne Storm secret cupboard has been located, I don't think we can truly appreciate what anyone in our great game is actually getting paid.
Good Talk.
