Just listened to the Dragons Den podcast with Ben Haran. He said we haven't had a recruitment manager for the last 18 months. No explanation as to why the hell not. It's like the Board are doing their best NOT to succeed.
You might be closer to the mark than you think.

Particularly with the recent revenue sharing news with Canterbury.

There’s no doubt that rationalisation of Sydney clubs is coming and it’s obvious we’d be in the gun with the Tigers.

I don't agree! We and the Tigers participated in the last JV experiment and are still recovering. Let someone else cop the pain.

We as a club are pretty much becoming irrelevant... continual failures...unfortunately the way we are managed, I could see us being made redundant...

If anyone you knew continually delivered the results we do in the real world they would be told to pack their bags....we have been a basket-case since Wayne Left the building.

Listening to Haran on the Dragon's Den podcast and I lost count how many times he said, "it's all about results", 'the NRL is all about wins", we're doing everything we can to win, blah blah...

Mate, as GM of Football, you have presided over the failure of this once great club.

Why hasn't the new CEO shown him the door???!

St George League's Club, with 50% ownership, is financially very stable. The problem with the Dragons is largely due to the owners of WIN Corp viewing St George Illawarra as a tax deduction rather than a potentially successful investment.

Not an easy problem to solve. Maybe the NRL could review the licence and discover the WIN ownership is not in the best interest of the club.

Don't let DA's disability worry you, I work with quite a few folks with spinal injuries.. everything he needs is above the neck line.. i.e. his brain and his personality... he will just need some help with the day to day stuff.

And yah hes on next weeks podcast (had the flu today), super super keen to hear from him.. sounds like much more than just a recruitment guy.. seems in charge.

Sorry mate but he’s not a fullback. His best qualities are suited to the wing + word is Melbourne are offering him a 10 year deal

Outstanding recruitment getting Ando

Imagine the players and managers he has spoke to last few years while at the Toosters

what a network, respect and database and working relationships he brings !!!!!

well done Ben, Flano and Tim / and the board to throw the necessary dollars in to make it happen

If we succeed, DYoung won't get an opportunity to upgrade from Senior Assistant Coach to Head Coach. Sabotage from Doust and CYoung and BHaranto move SFlann on. Sounds absurd, but wouldn't put it past this Terrific Trio

After doing poor work when Board members of St George Illawarra, how do you think the two of them became senior members of the St George Leagues Club Board?

To quote Marc Maron: good talk

Yep, it was a very interesting chat.

The highlights for me:

*2-3 years to bring about a genuine top 8 roster
* recognition of imports on team success, including lead in times.
* A lot of emphasis on training hard
* Doesn’t want players who can’t tackle.
* Experience in halves is important.
*infatuated with Clearys game.
* He favours the halves and front row positions

He says that teams get their value from lower paid playing above their salary. I think that’s a really good point.

Between the lines, he’s going to have the tough talks with Flanno about players.

I really liked his holistic approach.

He thinks the side is Ok, but you can tell he’s very anxious to add the value.

He came across as brutally honest about having to make decisions during his tenure. Code for swinging the axe.

Very polite and grateful for this opportunity to assist SGI.

I suspect that Daniel and Flanno will cross paths at some point, a bit of energy and competition despite different roles. We had a few recruitment people like that before we hit the skids. They can be yes men, but that’s not offering much.

The interviewer let him speak, so that was excellent.

In terms of club propaganda, the more you listened, the less space it was given, so we learned more about Daniel’s thinking in the game, which is the whole point. So well done to Dragons Den.

This is type of brutal honesty that harbours change.

The proof is in the pudding, but I could go another hour listening to his thoughts.

We won’t know until the project is done. He mentioned and understood Flanno needs good players asap, but that’s no easy ambition.

We haven’t had a proper recruitment response at wests tigers for a few years now.

There’s a small group working on it. It’s opaque and hard to understand.

There’s been successes and failures.

It was great to get Terrell May, but that was as much good fortune at first blush that he fell out with Robbo, but good work from Benji to drag him in.

But that was an agility and responsive recruitment effort. It’s not part of a plan or pre determined quest. And it’s hard to run recruitment on opportunities falling from the sky.

Even your Gutho, given the timing and speed the announcement, I suspect that they’d been ongoing quiet discussions for awhile.

I would prefer that we had a proper commitment to the assignment, including experience and expertise.

It’s crucial to get the options available for the coach to consider asap.

We all know that a couple of fresh players with particular strengths can change game plans and style.

Daniel was talking about the power of intelligent half backs for example. They can win you games in the end stages by spotting gaps and forecasting defence responses.

To be fair to Benji, at this point, he’d be better in a recruitment role than coaching. But he’d be mad not to spend a couple of days teasing out Daniel’s insights along the way.

All our public media is full of self promotion rubbish, so dragons den, it was an invigorating account.

I thought all clubs were as bad as us, it’s changed my thinking on club pr.

Dragons closing in on signature of Warriors speedster

The club is now closing in on the signature of New Zealand Warriors flyer Setu Tu, Zero Tackle understands.
His explosive finishing and versatility, with the ability to play on either wing, at centre, or even fullback, saw several clubs scout and approach his management, as previously revealed by Zero Tackle.
Now, sources close to the situation have confirmed Tu is “close to” securing a two-year deal with the Dragons, with negotiations understood to be in the final stages.
Tu, who starred for the Warriors' NSW Cup side in 2025, has been on the radar of multiple NRL clubs following a breakout campaign that saw him dominate the second-tier competition and help the ‘Wahs' claim the State Championship title.
