As the story goes....

Peter Sharpe has signed as an assistant coach.

A meeting was arranged post Sharpe signing with Daniel Anderson. He thought it was a meeting to sort out some details for what he believed was a done deal that he would be joining the club as head coach in 2005. However it was more of a peliminary discussion with no offical offer being made. He left very unhappy.....

I guess their are two ways to look at this news
Either 1. They are undecided about replacing Smith as coach :? Or
2. They are going to interview more candidates for the coaching job :D

Or, they are waiting for Smith to confirm his intentions for 2005... i.e: wait until Smith has had his time away to think things through.

did peter sharp actually play with sterlo at parra in the old days, dad is telling me he did and i thought it was steve sharp, can anyone confirm or deny????

PS Why would peter sharp sign as an assistant coach when he was already there in melbourne, i would have assumed he was taking the role over next year as head coach...i could be wrong...

Steve Sharp definitely played in the late 1970s to the late 1980s but i am pretty sure Peter Sharp did not.

Isn't Smith away with his daughter on some safari at the moment? Maybe we are waiting for him to get back, get a final decision from him and then table the offer to Anderson.

Hmmmmm.

Assuming that the Sharp/Anderson signings relate to the Head Coach's job, it would most likely be aimed at having a safety net in place should we continue to perform poorly next year, even with a revamped team.

We won't hear anything about it, Fitzy won't say anything. I'd say Smith knows better than anyone that he has to perform next year or he will get the cut, and this is just having a good mechanism in place to handle that situation should it arise. If all goes well and the team is kicking ass once again, then Smith won't be chopped but we will have two excellent Assistant Coaches (if they want to stay at a successful Club).

I'm not sure what Anderson can offer that Smith doesn't have. He's obviously a good coach but I think if Parramatta are going to get a new coach they should aim for someone with a fresh approach and fresh ideas. Not a bloke who's learnt his craft from Smith himself, and had the same problems at the Warriors this year that Smith has had at the last couple at Parramatta.

That makes a lot of sense and would be a sensible way to approach the situation.
But are you saying that if we are perforing poorly again next season, that Parra might give Smith the chop and break a contract?

I'm sure if we are performing poorly again next season then Smith will resign.

...If he doesn't move on to a coaching director/head coach role or similar to fulfil the final two years of his contract.
