Wests Tigers re-signed City Origin prop John Skandalis yesterday and are understood to be in talks with with Leeds front-rower Danny Ward.

Bulldogs second-rower Jamie Feeney has also been linked to the Tigers after being told he was free to leave immediately, despite having another 18 months to run on his contract.

I just found this from another site about him.
His contract is up, but he's one of those players who seems to play better when the carrot of a new contract is there, if you see what I mean. Seems to go into a comfort zone when his future isn't on the line.
Still young for a prop and playing pretty well at the moment, but certainly not one of the best in Super League. An interesting rumour though...

souds like a bit of a nugget. only 5'10. but he has to go hard in the pommie league if he's to be effective over here. but leeds are top. is he starting there? sheens must have a tip up from someone if he's looking at young pommies.

and by the way madunit i must say your french is amazing! though i'm not quite sure if i need to know anything about you that involves a monkey!

Brilliant he is not. Solid, workmanlike, yes. Brilliant, no.
But he's a bona fide legend for popping over a drop goal away at Hull a couple of years ago.

Thanks blocker, I like my monkey 8)

i think this is great news.not so much the player but the fact we are looking everywhere for props.

you can never have too many props(unless they are absolute crap)and i hope we are looking to sign more than one.

thats danny ward.
and this is from www.southstander.com (independant leeds rhinos website)his player profile is from the start of last season so has not been updated yet.

Southstander Opinion:

Danny stepped into the shoes of the injured Darren Fleary last season and made the prop position his own. For this, he was rewarded with Flearys number '8' shirt when he was 'retired' by the Rhinos at the end of last season. An injury of his own has meant that Danny has missed out on most of the pre-season matches, but his return to full fitness should see him back in the starting thirteen.
It is a very competitive front row this season, with McDermott, Ward, McDonald, Bailey and Feather all competing for the four (2 bench. 2 field) positions on offer. If Danny hits the form that he found last season, which propelled him into fourth spot in your man-of-the-match voting, he is sure to be one of these four on a weekly basis.

While he is of slightly smaller stature than you would want from a prop, his conviction and aggression make up for his shortfall in weight. He is a delight to see on the charge, and always puts in 100% in defence.

Danny is likely to be a squad player for the early part of the season, but as his strength increases, and he gets back to his best, I'd expect to see him staring more and more frequently. Yorkshire and GB beckon!

I wonder if this means that Aussie NRL props on the market have been ruled as possible future signings.
Poms are always a gamble... Look at Chris thorman.
As Bon said at least theyre actually lookin at props.

He has the melon for sure and certain, but at 5'10" and 105kegs does he have the size to play front row? I don't watch SL so I haven't the faintest about the dude but that would be the first concern. It would be interesting to hear what those who do watch think.

If he goes like Shrek then no problemo, but if he's just ordinary the lack of size makes him a touch and go prop. On pommies yeah they can be a gamble, but all Wests fans have fond memories of our last pommie prop. If goes anything like as good as ole Harvey then the Tigers will be on a winner.

Like you said Bon at least they're lookin in the right position for a change.

I like the fact that Sheens is infact looking outside the square - I mean we do have a problem up front and the UK super league is starting to make big inroads inregards to aiming up to the NRL (sure there are some sides that wouldn't make PL over here but the top sides would make the cut and could even give the comp a shake)

But in saying that if he is as good as some colums have made out he is at Leeds then why has he not been re-signed as yet ????

I am a Leeds fan in the UKSL and I think he has something to offer but I also think there is better talent that is on the open market over here than what Ward could offer us.

Haaaarvey Howard was a gamble that payed off for the Maggies champ! ;-)

Yep the cards fell our way on that occasion....Howard managed and held his own with aussie footy.....its one thing picking up a tried and tested NRL player....its another with a pom...a bit like blooding a rookie.....the step from reggies to firsts is a big one, as is the step from ESL to NRL.

im guessing he hasn't been re-signed yet due to the amount of props we have at the club in the form of barrie mcdermott, ryan bailey, chris feather(who is playing in the SR just so we can get him on the pitch),wayne mcdonald and nick scruton who is on loan at hull and then danny ward.
then again we seem to be leaving some contracts till the last minute eg ward, mathers etc
