I really hope we can hold onto Kev until this day somehow.

That was my first thought when reading that line yesterday.

Anyone see Darb's interview yesterday? He has little time for talking to journos.

I would love a link.

I personally love Darbs mentality to football. It is mercenary like, but who cares whilst he wears a Red and Blue jersey? If we win games, no one complains to the extent that we do after a loss.

That's a good point. We beat the Wests Tigers and we are a good chance of the premiership. We get belted by Manly and a bunch of players aren't up to first grade and we will probably miss the top 8 again. We beat the Cowboys and we are a premiership threat and we should keep the same team on the park. We beat Canberra and we are one of the premiership favourites and players like Boyd and Uate are considered vital to the team. We get beaten by the Dragons in a very close game and Uate is hopeless, Boyd is a blight on the team and a bunch of other players need to be dropped. I did an assignment at uni on Bipolar. It seems that it is more common than I thought.

What's this Boyd interview that people are speaking of? I checked out an interview on the Newcastle Knights website which was taken after the Dragons game and I thought he handled it well. I can only assume that there was another interview?

To be fair mate, our team is pretty bi-polar. Us fans (and pretty much all sporting fans for that matter) are just a reflection of that

Yeah I understand that the objective view for a fan is greatly affected by a win and a loss and the subjective view comes to the fore. At times I just don't think enough credit is given to the opposition and the way the team plays in spite of the result.

I heard a college basketball coach interviewed who had one an amazing 11 premierships in a row. When interviewed he said that winning or losing didn't bother him. What bothered him was how the team performed. If the team didn't give their all and still won, then it was a cheap victory. If the team lost but they gave their all, then it was deemed a victory as the other team may have had better players or received a better share of luck. Hearing Bennett interviewed, it is very apparent that he shares the same coaching philosophy.

The majority of Knights players gave their all against the Dragons. However the Dragons played very, very well. From what I have seen from the Knights so far this year, the team his heading in the right direction, so a loss isn't the end of the world, as long as the commitment and improvement is continuing.

I dare say that on the weekend we'll have a good win against Penrith, so the razor blades will be put away and the team will become a premiership threat again.

I live by that basketball mentality. I love the game, and I love playing it and teaching it to other people.

A couple of the guys in my team are new to competitive basketball. I had to explain to the the context of the phrase "good shot" as they believed a good shot was one that scored.

In sport, the result doesnt always contribute to the rating of the performance.

You can go down the court, beat 2 defenders and score a leaning reverse layup over another defender, and it still isnt a good shot because of the low probability of repetition. The result does not change the fact that it is a poor way to achieve perfection.

The result didnt go our way, but the effort and execution is general was positive. Singling out individuals is not going to achieve anything. The only player who can really hang his head is Neville, and that is because he failed in one of the most simple tasks in the game, at a crucial moment.

But the team as a whole should take responsibility for allowing points to be scored off the back of an unfortunate, but inevitable, mistake.

We give far too little credit to the Dragons and their kicking game (something we were crowing about when Mullo was doing it a couple of weeks ago)

They, at worst, equalled our performance with their own and backed it up with great kicking and being able to make the most of the chances they were afforded.

Still keen to see this interview everyone is whining about.

It was a post training interview. The journo asked Boyd about his form and he was pretty to the point and said something to the effect of " you can be the judge of that" but dickhead journo kept going so Boyd basically brushed him. It was pretty ordinary of Fox and the Matt Johns waste of time Monday night show to show it in that context, cos I have little doubt he was being honest. To me it was a great non bullshit response.

And here we are again

His 2 weak efforts at the goalline were unforgivable yesterday. I really want to believe that Boyds heart is in this team but he just keeps giving me reasons to think the opposite.

Yep he was pretty bad yesterday. He actually made a couple of nice runs bringing the ball back but his defence and positioning was the worst I've seen from him since the first half of last year.

And I understand the concept of milking penalties etc., but he really need to spend less time worrying about what the refs are doing.

Great player when we're on top but doesn't give a flying fu*k when we need someone to lift the team.

Boyd should be called The Barometer.

He's the perfect gauge on how your team is travelling.

When Saints were dominant 09-mid 11, Boyd was massive. Especially in 2010 when we were the best team by the length of the straight. I'll never forget the way he used to bring the ball back at a million miles an hour.

Back half of 11 he started dropping off & only occasionally shone.

He's been mostly underwhelming at Newcastle, with the odd outstanding performance.

To see him miss goal line tackles like he did yesterday, when you know he can do amazing things on attackers close the the line from his time at Saints when he saved a stack of tries, is the perfect metaphor.

He's a reflection of the group around him. Not saying he's soft or anything, he just reflects whats going on in the team.

Bizarre. But he's a bizarre guy. He is a merc & he plays like one. Reminds me a little of how Hulk Hogan would get the shit beat out of him and look dog ordinary doing it, until he got his adrenaline running & then he was unstoppable.

Seems Darbs needs the rest of the boys to be excited and up for him to be the same.

Boyd is like Hayne, a hell of a lot of talent and ability but he only plays well when the team does.

I'm not a big fan of Gids, but I sure as hell prefer him at fullback than Darius.

Finally someone is making some sense. Gidley was far better at fullback for us than Boyd. At least you know Gids will give his all for the team.

The Knights were not built on players like this absolute cat.

I wrote a piece on Kurt passing his use by date for F7s, but I do still see value in him at #1. The issue is that he and Boyd aren't much use to us anywhere else - so one of them either continues to waste a spot in the lineup or needs to go to reserves.
