I wrote a piece on Kurt passing his use by date for F7s, but I do still see value in him at #1. The issue is that he and Boyd aren't much use to us anywhere else - so one of them either continues to waste a spot in the lineup or needs to go to reserves.

Gids was already a slow Fullback and it looks to me like he has lost pace lately. I would have a 'soft' Boyd over Gidley at fullback, and i would have Kev as our number 2 fullback ahead of Gids too. Boyd's Kick returns are still better and his dummy half runs are nearly always good.
This year he has consistantly set up tries or burst through himself on that sweeping play which is all about speed and timing (two things Gids lacks). There were a couple of poor attempts against the raiders but he has saved plenty of tries at the back this year too.

Boyd should be called The Barometer.

He's the perfect gauge on how your team is travelling.

When Saints were dominant 09-mid 11, Boyd was massive. Especially in 2010 when we were the best team by the length of the straight. I'll never forget the way he used to bring the ball back at a million miles an hour.

Back half of 11 he started dropping off & only occasionally shone.

He's been mostly underwhelming at Newcastle, with the odd outstanding performance.

To see him miss goal line tackles like he did yesterday, when you know he can do amazing things on attackers close the the line from his time at Saints when he saved a stack of tries, is the perfect metaphor.

He's a reflection of the group around him. Not saying he's soft or anything, he just reflects whats going on in the team.

Bizarre. But he's a bizarre guy. He is a merc & he plays like one. Reminds me a little of how Hulk Hogan would get the shit beat out of him and look dog ordinary doing it, until he got his adrenaline running & then he was unstoppable.

Seems Darbs needs the rest of the boys to be excited and up for him to be the same.

Really? Using wrestling to describe Rugby League players? Surely you know wrestling is fake.

Looked like he actually cared yesterday. For his first kick return, he didn't pass it to the winger, he actually hit it up with gusto. The rest of the game speaks for itself.

I think Boyd hates Ennis for some reason.

I hate Ennis on the field. Met him in person once a few years back when he was at Broncos and he was a pretty good guy.

I don't really blame him for going MIA in the game today after backing up from Origin but jeez... where was this guy?

If you didn't already think Boyd was phoning it in for us, compare his efforts last night to those in the red and blue.

Never once last night did he return the ball at anything less than a million miles an hour, something he rarely does for us.

When he wants to, he is very involved and energetic, for us he looks like he's on mogadon half the time.

Hopefully NSW wins the 3rd game and Boyd gets fired up. We need a maroons boyd in the final third of the season.

There's nothing that infuriates me more than a marquee signing who delivers at representative level but fails to give a stuff about his club team.

David Taylor would be the main culprit I think of here. I thought it's pathetic how every year around Origin time he'll start playing like a world beater in the hope he'll get selected and then the rest of the time he couldn't give a stuff. I considered it justice when the QLD selectors didn't select him

I fear Darius Boyd will be in the same category for us.

Boyd at winger means he has to be there and gets a higher level of involvement.
At fullback he can inject himself into some plays almost at will.
Seems Boyd is content to provide a couple of really good plays for us in attack and is mostly satisfied with that.
I'll admit, however, that his involvement in getting the metres from our line has stepped up a little.
