I've seen him in a few ads (like those awful NRMA ones), but I dont think he's personally sponsored.

That's what I thought also, but then I compared the stats (unfortunately I couldn't find the innefective tackles stat).

Darren Lockyer:
Missed Tackles (season) - 28
Season Average - 4.4

Brett Seymour:
Missed Tackles - 35
Season Average - 5.0

The ineffective tackles stat is useless when it's not compared to the effective tackles...as a proportion of total tackle attempts.

Lockyer doesn't attempt many. The only time he makes a tackle is when he is 2nd man in or someone gets past Carroll.

It must happen alot, as he averages 17 tackles a game.

Also on the ineffective tackle rates, he is 3rd worst, with Seymour the worst and Campbell just ahead of him. (According to the DT)

I had a look at the NRL statistics and compared man to man.

Lockyer vs Seymour

Tackles 118 v 115
Missed 28 v 35

So Lockyer has made 3 more tackles and missed 7 less.

Lockyer v Campbell

Tackles 118 v 78
Missed 28 v 31

Lockyer v Head

Tackles 118 v 49
Missed 28 v 20

Lockyer v Witt
Tackles 118 v 105
Missed 28 v 16

Seymour 115 + 35 = 140 attempts 75%
Lockyer 118 + 28 = 146 attempts 80.8%
Campbell 78 + 31 = 109 attempts 71.6%
Head 49 + 20 = 69 attempts 71.0%
Witt 105 + 16 = 121 attempts 86.8%
Finch 94 + 12 = 106 attempts 88.7%

Looks like you guys are miles off the mark. Lockyer is not a turnstile compared to his peers.

Exactly, Lockyer has attempted more tackles that those other players too, so of course his ineffective tackle count is a little higher.

Also throw Kimmorley in there, he misses an average of around 4.6 or something.

I've noticed Lockyer sometimes deliberately drops off tackles once Carroll or someone has helped get it under control and the attacker isn't going to get away... He then jogs back into the defensive line. I think they do this so that he doesn't have to be involved in the struggle to put the player on the ground, thus giving him more energy in attack.

Withers also averages a high amount of misses but alot of those are missed attempted big hits or failed kick chases, either way the bloke is quickly taken a few metres away so no real problem
