Sort of like picking a Holden after you've missed out on a couple of Mercedes to me.
My thoughts: I've watched a couple of games Mapp has played in but can't even remember him.

I think its a fairly decent signing actually... he's been going very well this year and improving every year.

Needs to put on some beef but he's tall enough.

Yeah, while other teams went shopping at David Jones, we went to Target..

Put it this way, he has First Grade experience and he is a Prop Forward.. Both of these things we don't really have at the moment for next year if you take Nutley out..

If you pushed me for a name I could only come up with Mapp because he's a very unspectacular player but he's not a guy that ever lets the team down when he's on the field.

As Salivor said, only Mapp would be considered as not playing to his potential

CRL VI Player Ratings North Queensland

Mapp 6,7

…in 2004 our (Canberras) "nobodys" like Miller and Chalk were much better than the 2002 nobodys like Mapp, Rutgerson and Thompson

”Kiwi” said:
We have Coorey, Thaiday, Wyatt and Mapp who are all better than (Carl) Webb overall.

”Kiwi” said:
He (Learoyd-Lars) was never going to force his way into the Broncos pack with the likes of Webcke, Petero, Parker, Carlaw, Costigan, Mapp, Thaiday, Carroll, Thorn, Stagg ect all ahead of him.

- Darren Mapp 6,7 - Centre, Lock, Second Rower, Prop

This is some of what has been said about him over the past two years.

Will be a good signing -- but I still stand by assertion that the Broncos don't lose players unless they want to.

Do you think they wanted to get rid of Ashley Harrison and Craig Frawley?

Mapp yeah that nuffy's been around a while now, he did nothing in Canberra and has done nothing with the Broncos, yeah he sounds like a pretty good replacement for Galloway.

frawley not really (but brisbane have 3 really good centres now)...but harrison yes.
He priced himself out of the broncos. I will never forget him being interviewed on fox sports in 2002 saying "I think i am worth 250-300k"
No chance in hell were brisbane going to pay him that.

I'm prepared to give him a chance to prove himself but , I'm worryingly feeling more inclined to agree with Reefy...

How do we expect to compete and win an NRL title if our big singing to date is best described as a bronco second stringer ??

Second stringers are hardly going to beat the broncos, which, and I know this might surprise some at the club, we will need to do to win a premiership !

Also, at 24 years of age, the fact he is only 99Kg is a real concern, he aint going to pack on the beef anymore thana kilo or two at that age, at best.

You are right reefy, a nice backrow depth player and a bench forward for sure....

This signing is at the moment looking to me, to use a horse racing analogy.....

Instead of forking out and buying a lovely Redoubts choice, danehill or zabeel colt at the sales and having a golden slipper winner on your hands....

we wait , put our momey in our pocket, and buy a couple of fringer performers from the waterhouse or hawkes stable after 5 runs......

Well, at present, we have lost Stevens and Galloway from our current 17, and replaced them with.....Darren Mapp.

More needs to be following in the signing dept, blatantly.

A step in the right direction. At least we know that they've been at work. I eagerly await more announcements, especially concerning our friends in the Jets.
