Taylor to quit Souths at end of season

Ian McCullough AAP Sun, Mar 18, 2012 - 8:10 PM

South Sydney forward David Taylor has announced he'll leave the NRL club at the at end of the 2012 season.
The giant Queenslander, who scored two tries in Souths' 40-24 win over Penrith on Sunday, joined the Rabbitohs from Brisbane in 2010, but is set to return north of the Tweed.
The 24-year-old has a young family who are keen to live nearer home and the Broncos will be in pole position to re-sign him, with veteran Queensland prop Petero Civoniceva off contract this year and tipped to retire.
North Queensland and Gold Coast would also be in contention, but the cash-strapped Titans might not be in a position to sign him due to their precarious financial situation which has led to them approaching the NRL for early payment of their annual grant.
Souths are believed to have offered Taylor a huge deal to stay, but the 120kg back-rower said he had to take his family's wishes into account.
"The club, the players and fans have been very good to me," Taylor said.
"I came here wanting to become a better player and I will be leaving here as a State of Origin player, a better person and with another daughter in our young family.
"I appreciate the patience the club has shown, allowing me to make the choice that was best for me.
"It has been a difficult decision, but one I have made with my family in mind."
Taylor becomes the latest high-profile player to announce he is leaving a club mid-season, with Beau Scott to join Newcastle from St George Illawarra and James Maloney to link up with Sydney Roosters from the Warriors in 2013.
The departure of Taylor will free up around $400,000 in cash for Souths and will put them in a great position to sign either Cooper Cronk from Melbourne or Daly Cherry-Evans from Manly.
Queensland halfback Cronk is the biggest name off contract at the end of the year and is yet to commit himself to the Storm.
Manly have huge salary-cap issues in their squad, with many big names on back-ended contracts that kick in next season and are battling to keep Cherry-Evans, who is earning just $85,000 a year with the premiers and has asked for a release from his current deal which still has a year to run.[end Quote]

Sucks big time, he'll only get better. I think Sutton to the backrow and a quality five-eight like Foran would fill the void for us but its a big hole to fill.

A bit early to call but so far I would think this is the best option.

Sutton's strengths can still be utilised in the 2nd row. If we put all of our Taylor money into a good 5/8 and strengthen our front row in the offseason I'll be happy.

Surely brissy will get the big unit, a very strong pack could lift to new levels...if they can stop him from running at wingers or halves all game. Titties no cash

Taylor set for Titans deal

By Ian McCullough AAP Sun, Mar 18, 2012 - 10:37 PM

Gold Titans are set to announce on Monday they have signed South Sydney forward David Taylor on a four-year deal.
The 23-year-old announced on Sunday he would leave Souths at the end of the season to return to Queensland, and speculation is rife that Taylor has agreed on a deal to join the Titans next year.
Titans club officials didn't return AAP's calls, but it's understood there will be an announcement on Monday about the signing of the 120kg backrower, who scored two tries for Souths against Penrith.
Taylor was heavily linked with a return to Brisbane, with veteran prop Petero Civoniceva off-contract at the end of the this season.
However, the Titans, who are reportedly struggling for cash, have managed to put together a deal to bring Taylor north of the Tweed.
Souths are believed to have offered Taylor a huge deal to stay but he said he had to take his family's wishes into account.
"The club, the players and fans have been very good to me," Taylor said.
"I came here wanting to become a better player, and I will be leaving here as a State of Origin player, a better person, and with another daughter in our young family. "I appreciate the patience the club has shown, allowing me to make the choice that was best for me. "It has been a difficult decision, but one I have made with my family in mind." Taylor becomes the third high-profile player to announce he is leaving clubs mid-season, with Beau Scott to join Newcastle from St George Illawarra and James Maloney to link up with Sydney Roosters from the Warriors in 2012. The departure of Taylor will free up around $400.000 in cash for Souths, and will put them in a great position to sign either Cooper Cronk from Melbourne or Daly Cherry-Evans from Manly. Queensland halfback Cronk is the biggest name off-contract at the end of the year and is yet to commit himself to the Storm.

Taylor was definitely playing better in 2009 than he is these days...
He wasn't even in the 17 regularly in 2009 ffs.

Taylor out, Daly or Keiren or Cooper in. Dissapointing to lose such a great talent but there are good options to spend that money on.

Any opportunity to leave the Souffs (and NSW itself) would be golden for any player.

Souths won't get Cronk if he leaves Melbourne it'll be to a old club. And seeing as none of them have room for him he will stay

Same goes for Evans. I hate the kid but I can see him being loyal to Manly. He looks to be manly through and through and as for for an bunnies man but he will go to Dessie and the dogs.

The titans are currently where we were around 05-08. Buying names.

Since signing Burgess we've been a lot better about signing actual quality.

Burgess, Taylor, Inglis.

And not just who we have signed but who we haven't. When we lost Sandow the Souths of 05-08 would have went after someone stupid like Finch or Orford. We saw there was no top quality half so we stuck with a junior we developed.

We've began doing things the right way, the Titans, and the Eels, seem to be copying our style from when we were doing it wrong while we're trying to copy the style of successful teams.

So when Taylor comes to Souths he is quality and now he is just a name?

BunniesTurd, Titans aren't anywhere near where your team of numpties was in 05-08. They've actually won a few games since they re-entered the comp
