I've never used the site Roar, but I highly doubt users of that site are any sadder than someone who thinks their ground-breaking opinion in regards to it was worthy to create a thread about.

That's pretty much all the Roar is. You think Daily Terror journos are bad? The Roar is what happens when you have site full of nothing but opinion pieces published as journalism.

Quite remarkable, the State of Origin game tonight actually went ahead and was a success (well maybe not) even without DG.

I was wondering how we would cope.

David Gallop to be appointed new FFA boss

Date
August 21, 2012 - 2:46PM

Former NRL boss David Gallop will be confirmed shortly as the new chief executive of Football Federation Australia.

An official announcement is expected within the next half hour, confirming the departure of Ben Buckley, who has been at the helm of the FFA for the past six years.

Gallop won't be able to move into Whitlam Square immediately, possibly leaving Buckley in charge of finalising the all-important new television deal.

Now the NRL has finalised its own deal, things are expected to move quickly in the broadcast negotiations, which may yet involve either SBS or Ten in a partnership with Fox Sports. The FFA is still hopeful of doubling the existing contract to $40million per year.

I think its a smart move by the FFA. I think Gallop can stabilize them. They won't grow an ounce but no CEO could grow them.

I tried to tell the Victorians over at FourFourTwo that their belief that Gallop was a good choice because he'll negotiate a TV deal was just completely stupid.

Gallop, for all his faults, took over league in it's absolute darkest hour and led it to success. People forget that.

Not a terrible option at all for a code struggling as much as soccer is.

Not with Gallop doing the negotiating with his mates....

He's not. Buckley is and then Gallop is taking over. Good move by the FFA. Whilst he may not have been optimal for where RL is going, he's a good stabiliser of a sport which is what the A-League needs, and 1,000,000 times better than Buckley.
