A great commentator across a raft of sports including the Olympics

If the NRL have any soul they’ll have a minutes silence before kick off tonight

I might break dry July and have a beer for him tonight.

My favourite commentator alongside Jim Maxwell & Peter Wilkins.

I remember his first call as a full-time commentator in 1985 against Canterbury at Belmore when it was absolutely p*ssing down. (ended in a draw - we were robbed of a win - as per usual)

A really sad passing. You read this & realise nothing good lasts forever.

Yep life can be cruel
Also grew up listening and watching on ABC
Great down to earth commentator and a pleasure to listen to along with others of that era
I shudder in comparison to listen to the modern day tripe but I guess I am showing my age
RIP to a rugby league legend who did not get the same fanfare as others that he deserved
Not lost on us Dragon supporters

Very sad news.
The last of the impartial, balanced commentators who could call a game, entertain and not spout endless cliches and tripe.
I felt his absence from the airwaves acutely, and would rather read text commentary than listen to the current ABC league callers.
