Here's an idea... How about Souths hold G.I to his contract...

If he wants to f**k off to RU at the end of his contact in 3 seasons when he's 31/32 then good luck to him.

So Melbourne could now offer Inglis a marquee payment?

Since I consider Jamie Lyon to still be the best centre in the game in my view Parramatta could offer him a marquee payment . . . does that answer your question

The telegraph will be deciding who our marquee players are, as Dave Smith can only identify them when the DT writes they received an offer from another code and subsequently the sky is falling and Smith is a failure.

That's all this is about.

Also Souths offer Inglis 1 mil, rugby 1.3 mil and Raiders 1.3 mil. What happens? Souths can't play the rugby card and have thd NRL top up to match rugby's offer. The money is there on offer in league.

Yep, I agree with all that you have said so far Kiwi. If the NRL use this this Marquee top up the player should be moved to the highest bidder. Using the above scenario, if Inglis was offered 1mil from Souths, 1.2 from the Raiders and 1.4 from union, and smith decided to use his discretionary powers to offer a top up payment, Raiders should be the only team in this scenario able to register a contract. The offers should only include salary cap registered money and not TPAs.

The only club that should be allowed to pay marquee players over the cap to keep them in the game is the club that introduced them to the top grade in the first place . . . discovering marquee players is more important than auctioning them off

I think it should be more a case of the highest bidder getting the player and the NRL topping up the contract. There should be other incentives brought in for club juniors to remain at their junior club instead of the NRL marquee allowance.

Let them go to union or where ever. 75% of clubs are struggling with their bottom line now and they will go under if the few wealthy clubs end up with the marquee players. The NRL has been producing elite talent since 1908, one goes another one steps up. We need a comp where all teams have a realistic chance of a top eight finish at the start of the season

Won't happen while Ricky Stuart is coaching.

The NRL is showing how utterly amatuer it is by even suggesting their is such a thing as a discretionary power to pay marquee rates for players who have the potential to leave for rival codes. It is totally unfair and one sided. the top clubs will get the top players. the NRl continues to pedal the lie that they have interest in regional clubs. Newcastle and the Raiders success was followed by the fact they had, at the time, the top players in the game. All homegrown and developed.
The NRL has totally thrown junior development rewards and discounts under the bus. If that was allowed then Newcastle, Canberra, Penrith and Brisbane and or NZ Warriors would be the top four clubs in the game. We can't have that can we. God forbid the Roosters or Bulldogs actually developed anyone.

Roosters 2015 Strongest line-up:

1. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
2. Daniel Tupou
3. Michael Jennings
4. Blake Ferguson
5. Shaun Kenny-Dowall
6. James Maloney
7. Mitchell Pearce
8. Jared Warea-Hargreaves
9. Jake Friend
10. Dylan Napa
11. Boyd Cordner
12. Mitchell Aubusson
13. Aiden Guerra

14. Sam Moa
15. Isaac Liu
16. Martin Kennedy/Kane Evans
17. Jackson Hastings

The players in bold all made their debuts with the Roosters. And the players in bold & underlined have been developed by the club as teenagers before making their debuts.

How many clubs can boast 12 players in their starting 17 who debuted at the club? And how many have 9 in the team who've been there since they were teenagers?

We have a ridiculously small junior base. Nothing we can do about that. But we develop and nurture young talent better than anyone in the game. And ironically we're about to get punished for it as a couple get poached this year following our success.

Jackson Hastings came through the Dragons system and Guerra was developed by the Storm.
