FFS guys. We dodged a bullet at that price.

The money was getting out of hand and no way we would get value from him at that price.

We have a great pack, we need a decent half with a strong kicking game (that's the missing link). We will get one and it won't cost 3.3mil over 3 years.

Good luck to DCE at the Titans. If it was any of us we. Would take what we felt was right for us too.

The most important part is Manly are now even more a rabble. As sharks fans you should be reveling in this

Agree MWAL. The tits want DCE as a footy player but absolutely need him now as a marque for the clubs survival. Reckon he might take some time to shine on the field up there and they'll give him all the time he needs to do so. We want a no nonsense bloody good number 7 not a marque looking to profile himself.

i'm happy we missed him only if we find something good as a replacement. imo, we don't need much more in a halfback to be a threat considering we got so close with robson. need a better long kicking game and someone with enough pace to take advantage of half breaks in the middle of the field...DCE would have been good, but he was probably more than we needed, especially at that price (which would absolutely have led to missing out on players in other positions and dramatically affect our depth.)

don't think that DCE would really fit with the image we're growing either. we feel like a lot more of a grass roots, everyman club, and paying an individual a sixth of the entire playing squad's pay packets is a poor fit.

would love to see hodkinson turn out for us, i know a lot of people here aren't fans but i rate him highly. can win the big games and has all the solid/calming/organising ability of robson with some better decision making, a long kicking game and a few extra touches of flair.

We may have dodged a bullet but it should have been our bullet to dodge. The NRL made sure we were shooting blanks.

I do have a big concern about Hodkinson knees though

Should we grab Sezer off the tits? Hodko is a gamble for anything more than a 2 year deal.

Well if the Flanno formula works, we will need a half who can tackle, and direct a team.

Got to be one out there cheap.

I'm sad as hell we missed DCE, he is(was) the best halfback available and would have been a huge boost for us on and off the field.

Thing is if he didn't want to be here no point coming...

On the bright side we still have a shit ton of cap space to secure a halfback and a prop for next year.

My shopping list:
Sezer
Hodkinson

I'd also be looking at Sandow. If it is true that we are building a positive culture then taking on a player who is no doubt talented but needs support should not be an issue...

Coaching staff ought to be providing Murphy and Stacey specialised support so add that to the shopping list if we are not doing it already...

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed.

No sour grapes here but I definatley think he has made the wrong career move in terms of finals footy etc

Bottom Line - You need a Gun Halfback to win a comp.

He (DCE) is a goodun - that will get better.

I'm sorry that we missed out on him. "Ain't going too far without one"

It's one of the differences from being very competitive to getting to run on the field in early October.

I don't think missing out says anything bad about where we are as a club. Says a bit about the Hartleys though. I think he has made a pretty good choice for where he is as a marque player. The media are reporting he will have input into recruitment etc. We couldn't / wouldn't offer that to be fair. He is getting more money and will be back in QLD. They will build the Tits around him (will need to, they are razzed).

It says nothing bad about your club. You were just outbid by a club with more room in the salary cap, not for the first or last time either. Can't do a thing to change that

Ive said it before, I rate Sandow highly. He is your classic, scheming little halfback and behind a big pack rolling forward (exactly what we have) he seems to have all the time in the world. The only thing i would worry about is where to hide both he and Barba in defence? we would have the worlds smallest halves pairing.

Sandow is also suspect mentally which makes him higher risk. Sandow and Barba are both 'off the cuff' players who may not have the structure to get the team around the park.

We need a dominant half to run the team allowing Barba to pick his moments. Cherry Evans could play that role. However, spending that much on one player is a real risk especially one with the reputation of being a prima donna.

Interesting times ahead in the player market. Any decent 6 or 7 will have big cash thrown at them with several clubs chasing limited talent.

So here's a dumb thought. What is the difference between an excellent dummy half and an excellent half back in the modern game?

Sandow can tackle. He smashed a 2nd rower last night in an absolute classic take out the legs tackle.

Sandow plays like he is in his backyard - creative, full of tricks, does what it takes to outsmart out play the opposition. He is one of the best halve stop watch at the moment. Would be delighted if we chase him for 2016.

That said. 6. Barba 7. Sandow would either be lethal or disaster. Sandow and Foran, that would work well...:sarcasm:

Agree with this.
And a big F U to the NRL.
He'd have signed with us if it wasn't for them.
