There's nothing out there better...as bad or as good as you think Shane. There's nothing out there. Might as well get AI to make all the decisions and negotiations. It'd be an improvement.People calling for a coaching shake up should also include a REALISTIC COACHING IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTION in their post. And please, not untested "coaches" like Josh Hannay. The last few years have shown us a plethora of wonderful assistant coaches who turned out to be absolute failures as Head coaches. Barrett, Price, Stone, Demetriou, O'Brien, Holbrook......
Your assumption that the board have KPIs is flawed. I doubt any of them even watched a game this year. Can this post be altered to sack Dean Young? I fear Flanagan's time is up; the board of directors probably gave him two years—no finals, you're out. Come on down, Mr. Young, you're in now, matey.
Believe me they're looking and setting kpisYour assumption that the board have KPIs is flawed. I doubt any of them even watched a game this year.
Waaay too inconsistent with his defensive game plans. How can in one week get the guys to play great defensively and the opposition not scoring too many tries and then the next week or so revert back to leaking many tries.Dean young the elephant in the room .
He has not improved since coming back after his stint with cowboys as a assistant.
Thanks DS- interesting reading and food for thought- I wonder however if tackle efficiency tells the full story of our forwards' defence - perhaps you could enlighten me whether an individual's tackle efficiency includes only attempted tackles or tackles that should have been attempted but weren't. I ask this because there'v been numerous examples, particularly near our line, where misreads (eg falling for dummies) and poor positioning have resulted in opposition players walzing thru yawning gaps without a hand being laid on them.Straight up I want to make it clear I'm not a DY fan at all, however, I found this stat pretty interesting:
Of our 15 forwards who have played 1st grade this year (inc if only 1 game) and including Cook and Lids as #9. Not including NT who played centre.
None of our forwards have a tackle efficiency less than 90%. The lowest being LL at 91.2%, followed by Sua at 92.4%.The highest (exclude Sele 1 game) is Klemmer at 98% efficiency.
Now, it's very different with the backs, and paints a pretty ugly picture, and could explain why teams have success going around us. Eg: Holmes at 82.2% and Sloan at 76.1%. Suli has a 92.9% efficiency and CT is at 86.7%.
It's like the forwards are doing there job, but there's an open freeway on our edges. This is where the focus should be.
Oh, and if there's a reason why Finau isn't being selected, it maybe his defense is the lowest of all our backs at 66.7%. You've gotta do it both sides of the ball.

Stats can be very misleading, Klemmer may have 98% but i have seen numerous times where he was too slow and couldn't get up from the ground quick enough to get into marker and to be fair to Klemmer he isn't the only one, players not moving quick enough laterally to stop a break, players not able to put an attacker on the ground in a tackle or even putting them on their back, or getting dragged back for PCM.Thanks DS- interesting reading and food for thought- I wonder however if tackle efficiency tells the full story of our forwards' defence - perhaps you could enlighten me whether an individual's tackle efficiency includes only attempted tackles or tackles that should have been attempted but weren't. Apart from being offside most of the game the bulldogs are so good at nullifying momentum through having at least one extra person swinging in late in the tackle and turning the player sideways, so they need to kill time straightening up before playing the ball. Allowing more time to set the line.Stats can be very misleading, Klemmer may have 98% but i have seen numerous times where he was too slow and couldn't get up from the ground quick enough to get into marker and to be fair to Klemmer he isn't the only one, players not moving quick enough laterally to stop a break, players not able to put an attacker on the ground in a tackle or even putting them on their back, or getting dragged back for PCM.

The whole myth surrounding Dean Young and his defensive coaching prowess needs to be called out. I went thru the stats when he was defensive coach for the Cowboys between 2021 and 2023 and the most charitable interpretation is that there was wild inconsistency.I'm not concerned about the new members of the Board. It is old members that concern me the most.
Flannagan and Young need to lose their job. In fact clean out the Flannagan, Young and Carr. Perhaps the new CEO can devise a more effective vetting method.
He is a myth in general i don't even think he was that great of a player sorry...The whole myth surrounding Dean Young and his defensive coaching prowess needs to be called out. These are the results showing points conceded and where the Cowboys placed in the NRL for points conceded that year.
2021- conceded a whopping 748 points- the worst of the 16 clubs (pre-Dolphins)
2022- conceded 361 points (2nd best)
-
2023- conceded 488 (9th best)
No doubt he's living off his one-year wonder in 2022 to score the gigs with NSW and the Dragons (while hoping we don't ask too many questions about 2021!).
