Chesterton of the Traitorgraph alleges League is selling it's integrity because some clubs are linking with betting agencies to provide an income source. Chesterton's growing holes in his brain have eaten the following bits:

• Wests set up a League's Club with poker machines to amass a mighty side to wrest the premiership from St George in the late 1950's. the Ashfield based club still finds Wests.
• His employers linked private gambling operators (Colin Tidy) to League during Traitor League.
• League's expansion was built on the back of rick poker machine revenues from clubs like Queanbeyan and Seagulls.

An article by the Traitorgraph, again, about League dying because some dope is putting up ALF goalposts in an oval in Kellyville. Comes with a nice pick of a kid scoring a try with a red ball.

JW started a thread in TFC called "AFL - The culture to despise" which has racked up an impressive 182 pages worth of AFL "culture" in the 3 years it's been in existence.

Not many of those pages refer to Telegraph articles.

the difference has been that nrl journos will tear into league at the drop of a hat. if a player dishes out pink-eye, it's front page scandal stuff.

in AFL, the hacks close ranks & protect the cum-gargling low-lifes. it takes involvement in organized crime before it's even suggested that there are some bad eggs in that abomination of a code. rape, beatings, bestiallity, murder, break & enter, extortion, fraud, drug-pushing & all the other crimes on their daily to-do lists never see the light of day.

Love the thread top work, you see it year after year...

The only problem is that it's not only people from outside Rugby League who do this sort of thing.
The people who support the game spend their weekends ringing up telling radio announcers that the game is garbage and everything needs to change.
Then you have TV commentators who spend more time pointing out how the game sucks and that the rules need to be changed than they actually spend commentating the match!

Yet you listen to an AFL radio/tv broadcast and barely ever to they say a bad word about the game it's all positive!

This is something that has to change and soon IMO. I'm all for discussing issues in the game but do we have to spend every match and weekend talking about how much the game sucks...

Yes. White anting is rife in League.

Starts with whinging at referee decisions. What is interesting is that the Referee is usually right by the strict interpretation of the rules, and the ex player commentator who, after 14 years of first grade, still struggles with the knock on rule - will usually lead the parade against the referees for a whole weekend.

The Telegraph is the only paper to have a dedicated league section all year. Try finding league news in the Herald over the summer.

The SMH online is far better for summer League news, unless you want another story on how Bennet's cat is liking Wollongong.

But I guess your dream would be no League presence in a Sydney paper. Quick, ring the Herald and thank them.
