we have major probs in defence[ obviuos] when will it be drummed into them that you cant win with poor defence against quality teams. problem is its across the board and whoever is defence coach should cop a rocket ,if we play like we did today against saints, penrith por easts we will be looking at the record books for aloosing score. somthing must be done, this has gone on for far too long. what is the answer? does anyone have a suggestion?

to many dropped balls and penalties put pressure on our defence meaning we have to defend back to back a lot....whilst not the entire answer, i think it is playing a part

Yeah..........good point.

If we stop dropping the ball, we don't have to make so many tackles.

Despite having poor defence we've still won 4/6. We'll need to improve our defence though when we are playing the top sides or they'll run right over us. When Brian Smith first started we were consistently the best defensive team in the comp. Everything seems to be falling apart lately.

As I've said a couple of times.

Parramatta are playing no where near their best but are still winnings games and at this stage of the season that is more important.

Attack isn't the problem Parramatta have score over 30 points twice this year and once scored over 40 points.

Defence is more an attitude issue once a few problems get ironed out, Parramatta's defence will be back to something close to it's best. There are still 20 weeks left in the season plenty of time to get these problems sorted.

1 thing that cannont be fixed later in the year is not having enough wins to make the finals.

I don't think anyone's disputing that. It's just we Parra fans are dedicated are always looking for ways to improve. I'd like to see us as premiership contenders rather than a side in the finals just to make up the numbers.

nah - i have no idea if rod is the defensive coach - just joking

but i agree, we are really poor defensively - i can't believe how bad considering we were good not that long ago.

Well actually the defence although only slighty has improved each week.

v Dogs 42
v Knights 38
v Raiders 26
v Bunnies 20
v Manly 26 - but it was only 12 after that opening 15 mins blitz by Manly.

Still a LONG LONG way to go but at least they have a street directory this year.

I really don't think it's improved that much

round 1 - 8 tries conceded
round 2 - 3 tries
round 3 - 5 tries
round 4 - 4 tries
round 5 - 4 tries
round 6 - 4 tries

It looks pretty consistent to me. On the plus side though despite -9 we've scored one more try than we've conceded this year.

If we could become a dominating defensive team, we will go a long way towards the top 4 this year, and maybe further.
Scoring points hasn't been a problem, although, I don't really think we have come up against a truly tight defensive unit this year.
But it is imperative that we start protecting our tryline a little more.
All great Premiership winning sides are based on an awesome defence.
We used to have it (well, for 1 season anyway).
There is no reason why the boys cannot put in more hard yards and become that brick wall.
Or is there????? Remember.........big and ugly?????
Maybe Big and Ugly just isn't mobile enough to be an ultimate defensive unit.
Time will tell us.

From memory Penrith had the worst defense from any of the top 8 sides going into the finals last year, and also from memory they won the premiership ;-).

If we can improve our ball control, our defense will be a lot better (and attack too :D )
